Ok, so i am a curious guy. I get the new software when it comes out (except for vista, wont touch that). So I downloaded the new Windows Live Messenger. Double clicked the installer. The cursor changed to the arrow with the hourglass, and then back to the good ol arrow. So now, me thinking it was a program clash, I uninstalled the old Windows Live Messenger, and tried to install again. Once again no luck. Rebooted, retryed, rebooted, retryed. Still nothing. So then, thinking I will cut my losses and try again on another computer, I go ahead and try to install the old WLM (The new one is still beta). The same thing happened. Mouse with hour glass. Then normal again. Rebooted, retryed. No Luck. At first, a problem with MSI, but a)this was a .exe b)i could install other .exes (Winamp, for instance) c)i could install other .msis So yeah, thats it. Sorry for the rant. But please help. Well, on my windows Live Messenger someone invited me to view their webcam. I accepted and my Messenger froze. This problem persisted and then i detected i could not send voice clips or even get into audio/video settings. I fixed it once, but once I closed the Messenger I could not recreate this fix. Microsoft has re-introduced VoIP functionality to Windows Live Messenger, after removing the feature earlier this year. Outbound calls can now be made through the Messenger with Telefonica's Voype service. Microsoft had previous agreements with Verizon and Net2Phone for VoIP service on the Live Messenger. Telefonica is offering the dial-out service for $0.014 cents a minute, compared with $0.021 cents a minute for SkypeOut. However, Telefonica does not have a comparable offering to SkypeIn, so that could be one barrier to widespread use of the voice feature. With this new bot, you can IM back and forth with friends who speak different languages while the bot does the translations for you. To use the new bot, just add mbot@hotmail.com to your contact list. Keep in mind that machine translation isn’t perfect – using slang or other colloquialisms can give it trouble. At the moment, the translation bot support the following languages: English to/from: Arabic Chinese Simplified Chinese Traditional Dutch French German Italian Japanese Korean Portuguese Russian (RUS->ENU only) Spanish Chinese Simplified <-> Chinese Traditional More languages will be added over the next few months. Ok, now my head is getting dizzy from the number of times Microsoft Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger has had outbound VoIP-to-PSTN calling (2006), then pulling outbound VoIP calling (early 2008), and then putting it back in. Also, I believe it was 2004 when the Messenger client used Net2Phone before they pulled the plug. Well, apparently outbound PSTN dialing using VoIP is back in! Windows Live Messenger has now teamed up with Telefónica to offer VoIP services. Previously Net2Phone and Verizon have had exclusive deals with Microsoft's Messenger client. When you click on Make a Phone Call you see the dialpad window and it explains you can sign up with Telefonica's Voype service to call directly from within Windows Live Messenger. Telefónica's rates seem decent as compared to SkypeOut. For instance,Telefónica charges $0.014 per minute for the U.S. comparaed to $0.021 SkypeOut calls. Unfortunately, there is no dial-in (DID) capability equivalent to SkypeIn with Telefónica's service. The service uses prepaid amount in dollars. Increments of $5, $10, and $20 are available and you can set it up to automatically recharge the account when it reaches a certain threshold. To use it you just need Windows Live Messenger 8.0 and above. According to an email sent out tonight to users of MSN Direct Spot watches, which will not support the new Wave 3 version, Windows Live Messenger is set to be released on February 10, “2008” (sic). The email gives the correct start date for the beta (Sept 17, 2008). Of course it remains to be seen whether or not the release schedule is met, but this gives us some indication of the timetable for Wave 3 final releases. With Wave 3, the header allows for theming across Windows Live using "scenes", meaning that the UI you see in Messenger is also the UI you see on the web.
