Dale Leo Bishop is scheduled to be killed tomorrow by the state of Mississippi -- despite the fact that he did not kill anyone, although he assisted an attack that turned into a murder. The actual murderer, oddly enough, was sentenced to life in prison; but Bishop, who is mentally ill, was sentenced to die. [For more, see previous post on this subject .] All of his judicial appeals have been exhausted now. Outside a highly unlikely intervention by the U.S. Supreme Court, the only hope Bishop has is a commutation of his death sentence to life in prison by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. As the Jackson Clarion-Ledger points out in an excellent editorial on the case, just last week Barbour pardoned a man convicted of a heinous murder. Michael Graham walked up to his ex-wife's car at a streetlight in Pascagoula and shot her in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun, blowing her head off in front of her own father, who was standing across the street at the time. Graham had served 19 years of a life sentence for the killing when Barbour pardoned him. The reason? Graham had been a trusty, a prisoner working as a servant, in the governor's mansion. Several times a day, Leo will throw himself against the freezer door and continue to ask, "Pop? Pop? Pop?".  He is, of course, wanting a popsicle.  If I'm satisfied he's eaten enough of a recent meal then he can have one (or two).  That's fine.  In the video below it appears Leo is experiencing repeated brain freezes.  Either that or he's just being silly.  Or both.        On the subject of eating-- my new favorite Leo-ism is this: (Leo watching me nurse Gus) Leo:  Mommy boobies! Instead of pops, this time it's black beans.  Yes, last night we went to my all time favorite Mexican restaurant, Salsarita's.  I think Leo loves this place as much as I do.  When I was pregnant with him I ate the chicken quesadillas combo meal at least once or twice a week.  Leo really digs the black beans and his salsa dip is medium not mild.  Follow it with some ice tea (half sweet, half unsweet) and Leo and I are two happy campers.  I think Mitchell tolerates this restaurant for my benefit, but he's not as fond of it as I am.  He only suggests this place when he's trying to get on my good side.  Hopefully Gus will enjoy Salsarita's too and ol' Dad will really be outnumbered.    Read and post comments | Send to a friend ...
