According to NME , Led Zeppelin will be touring and recording without Robert Plant . Yikes. The three surviving members of Zeppelin (Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones) reunited in 2007 for one show at London's 02 reunion, with Jason Bonham filling in for his late father, OG drummer John. But Plant denied last year that he had any interest in pursuing a reunion tour anytime soon, issuing a statement via his webiste that said after he finished his tour with bluegrass singer and Rising Sand partner Alison Krauss, "[He] has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years. Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin." But Page's manager Peter Mensch claimed today that Zeppelin would soldier on without Plant: "They [Page, Jones, and Bonham] did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up. And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill, whatever their bill was at this stage in their career, that they'd make a record and go on tour." Jack White, possibly the only person alive who could plausibly replicate Plant's swagger and yelp, has already said that he won't be involved with the tour. Last year, he told the British tabloid the Daily Star that "I do not believe you can have a band called Led Zeppelin, singing Zeppelin songs, without Plan ...

After months of confirmations , denials , counter-denials , and, uh, Twisted Sister Dee Snider's thoughts , the manager of Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has confirmed that the rock titans plan to reform for a new tour and album sans singer Robert Plant. More on SPIN.com: >> Robert Plant on Zeppelin Tour and Record: Not Gonna Happen >> Led Zeppelin to Recruit New Singer? >> Led Zeppelin: "Plant Doesn't Want to Play Loud Music, But We Do!" Peter Mensch spoke to the BBC about the remaining members' plans: "They did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up. And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill…that they'd make a record and go on tour. We just need to find a singer." However, Mensch remained mum on the potential candidates for the position, which have been rumored to include Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Myles Kennedy of God-rock Creed-castoffs Alter Bridge. But he assured fans of one thing: "It's gonna be a long and difficult process. And we're not soliciting people! So don't call me about it!" ... Source: www.prefixmag.com --- 2 days ago
Last week saw the airing of yet another VH1 special that features "hilarious" people and music icons counting down a list of dubious credibility. This time it was their list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs, and it was hosted by Bret Michaels, who didn't even pretend to care like he was interested in participating. (Plus what's the deal with his hair? It looks like large spools of thread lined up along the back of his bandana.) There were some obvious problems with the list, principally the definition of "hard rock." Does it mean songs with guitars? Screaming? Loud drums? Or recorded on Amethyst? (rock joke). No one really explains. But at any rate, Guns N' Roses' "Welcome To The Jungle" got top honors, cementing VH1's recent mission to kick off a hair-metal revival. How that could beat out any, any , song in the Led Zeppelin songbook, is beyond me, but it chiefly beats out "Whole Lotta Love" and "Kashmir" here. To be sure, there are some terrible inclusions on this list-- White Zombie, Winger, Andrew W.K., Europe, Buckcherry, and Evanescence, to name a few of many-- but overall, it's less annoying than their list of the 100 Greatest Hip-Hop songs . Here's the full list: 100 Sammy Hagar - "I Can't Drive 55" 99 Grand Funk Railroad - "We're An American Band" 98 Buckcherry - "Lit Up" 97 The Edgar Winter Group - "Frankenstein" 96 Kansas - "Carry On Wayward Son" 95 Creed - "Higher" 94 The Darkness - "I Believe In A Thing Ca ...
