by Katie Fretland Barack Obama says he has thick skin about negativity directed at himself. So when the New Yorker published that much-talked about cover, he said (a few days later) that he had seen and heard worse. But when it comes to his Wife, Michelle Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president gets more heated. In remarks similiar to the time Obama said "Lay Off my Wife," Obama tells Glamour magazine that spouses are "civilians" who didn't sign up for submitting to smear... ...

Aug16, my Wife and I flew Air Canada Jazz from YYZ to YFC. We got an emergency exit seats on 7A and 7C. Emergency exit seats are the good seats on this small regional jet(CRJ200). After we sit on our seats, a flight attendent(A french speaking lady) came to us and let us move one row to 6A and 6C(people on 6A,6C have moved to 7D and F). We mentioned that both of us speak English(we have lived in Canada for 6 years and finished our degree in Canada). However, the lady said only bilingual people can seat there. We followed her order and moved to row 6(which we hate, this row cannot Lay down the seats). After that, most important thing is, she told an Off-duty piolt to sit on our seat.. In our opinion, it is fine to move us, but after saw this event, we thought her purpose was not for safty reason, which was given a convenience for her colleague. This flight attendent also puted another guy on our seat without asking "Does he speak bothe English and French". I guess because he is a Caucasian. We consider this was a race dscrimination(we are asian). According to Statistics Canada, 2006 Census Profile of Federal Electoral Districts Personal bilingualism and multilingualism is a significant feature of Canadian society: at least 35% of Canadians speak more than one language. Of these multilingual Canadians, somewhat less than half (5,448,850 persons, or 17.4% of the Canadian population) are able to speak both the official languages The Consti ...

A look at Monday's speakers for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver: --- MICHELLE OBAMA: The potential first lady addresses Democrats after a rocky summer as the target of conservative attacks. She was harshly criticized by Republicans for her comment that for the first time in her adult life she was proud of the United States, a comment her husband, Barack Obama, later said was merely an expression of her pride in high voter interest. The criticism of Michelle Obama led Obama earlier this year to call for opponents to "Lay Off my Wife." In recent weeks, Michelle Obama has worked to soften her image, talking about raising two daughters in an interview in Ebony magazine and making a June appearance at an Ohio nursing home. Barack Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, and Michelle Obama's older brother, Craig Robinson, also will have roles in the convention. HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI: The nation's first female speaker of the House, Pelosi opens the convention. Pelosi has represented the San Francisco area in Congress since 1987. Since taking the gavel last year, Pelosi has steered a divided House through an economic stimulus package and opposition to many of President Bush's initiatives, including an override of Bush's veto of the 2008 farm bill. But so far she has failed to achieve a top goal since Democrats regained control of the House: halting U.S. combat missions in Iraq. The failure has led to criticism of Pelo ... John Balderrama knew something was very wrong that Tuesday afternoon on July 22 when his Wife Carlene dialed his cell phone. “She said ‘You need to get home right now’ and hung up,” he said. Balderrama, a plumbing supervisor for a Danvers-based construction company, had been working at a job site in Andover. He said he put down his tools, hopped in his truck and began the one-hour drive back to Taunton. When he arrived at his house at 103 Duffy Drive — located just Off of Williams Street, it’s one of the city’s more serene suburban streets — he was met by police standing on his front lawn. At some point he happened to catch sight of an orange sticker posted on the front of his modest, split-level house. It was, he would soon realize, a notice of foreclosure. “Where’s my Wife, what the hell’s going on?” he said he asked the small contingent of cops who had been waiting for more than an hour. To which he said an officer replied: “I’m sorry sir, your Wife is deceased.” Inside the house, downstairs in the furnished basement, Lay the body of 53-year-old Carlene Balderrama — dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted, single shotgun blast from one of three hunting rifles her husband kept locked in a gun case. He said he right away assumed that someone had shot her. “She didn’t like being around them,” he said of his late Wife’s feelings about his rifles. The only reason he kept them in the house, he said, was to go deer hunting with ... Source: www.stampedeblue.com --- 60 days ago
We attended the morning session already, and we will be heading back for the afternoon practice soon. If anyone from Stampede Blue is there later and reads this first, look me up. My Wife and three children are with me, along with two close friends. Some observations include: We saw Clint Session Lay out Joseph Addai in a rotating drill of pass rushing/blocking. Everyone made noise about it. Addai stepped aside and took Off his helmet. Then when Session was due up again, he cut in front of the other back to get another crack at #55. Pretty cool to see. And Session looks good. Marlin Jackson must be part zombie, like Bob. He hits hard. Alot. After a receiver got the best of him in a blocking drill, I thought he was going to start a fistfight. Later in practice, he laid out Garcon (hard) after a short completion. And there were others as well. I don't think Sam Giguere is faring well. He was getting alot of correction from coaches on some blocking drills and made to do them over and over. No one else received that kind of scrutiny. Also, he had a couple of hiccups in cone drills that were commented on by the coaches. With so much depth there, I think he is working uphill big time. He has missed time, and there isn't long left for him to overwhelm anyone with his performance. We'll see. The lack of K2 involvement leads me to believe our suspicions. He is on his way out. Mike Hart is going to be a good addition. The QB play is underw ... Source: www.wweek.com --- 41 days ago
As I left Invesco Field about 10:45 p.m. Mountain Time on Thursday night, I heard a familiar baritone voice from a level below. The voice — Sen. Barack Obama’s — thanked a number of key supporters, including Wife Michelle. “It’s going to be harder now,” Obama said. “You’ve been hanging around with Democrats this week. Next week will be different.” A reporter from the Reno Gazette-Journal and I were hanging over the edge of a half-wall, beyond which was a sort of atrium where the Democratic nominee was laying out the path ahead. All that Lay between us and a scoop was a blocked escalator—and a bunch of bossy ushers who cleared us out on the Secret Service’s command. Off to the bar. For a political junkie, Denver was heroin. See an Invesco Field elevator door open and a pack of reporters tell New York Gov. David Paterson, “no room!” (There really wasn’t.) It was a place where you could see JFK’s speechwriter Ted Sorenson shuffling slowly along a crowded Pepsi Center concourse, or nearly get bowled over by a crazed Secret Service agent slamming through fire doors and yelling “Move.” Every day, you’d see bold-faced political names from the Senate (Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who looks frail); Congress (Barney Frank of Massachusetts, overheard telling an aide, “if you don’t know the answer just tell me that,” and Charles Rangel of New York); and state government (Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, proportioned like a human bobbl ... Source: www.enterprisenews.com --- 48 days ago

John McCain should never be president. Let's get that out of the way. Forget about his abrupt dumping of his Wife and kids for Cindy Hensley, the heir of the Budweiser fortune. That was an asshole move, but it was years ago, even if it did thoroughly piss Off the man he's trying to channel in his bid for the presidency, Ronald Reagan. Forget too about his friendship with the inveterate scumbag Charles Keating and McCain's rather revolting membership in the Keating Five . Again, it was years ago and he managed to slime his way out of it with minimal damage done. Forget his (literal) embrace of George W. Bush after Bushie's campaign spread vicious rumors (illegitimate black babies, anyone?) about him during the 2000 election. That was just a pragmatic move by a politician who decided to Lay down his spine for his ambition. And even forget about his undying support for the war in Iraq and his vague promise of more war to come. That's a fair election issue (wrong as it may be) and one that should probably percolate through the electorate. But this Sarah Palin thing, well, dammit, now he's disqualified. This bird he chose as his running mate has way too much family drama in her life to qualify her to run the local PTA, let alone the free world. She has a tiny baby with Down's Syndrome and now we learn that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant with a baby of her own, which she's keeping. My Wife asked me out of the blue where the phrase do a number on 'have a bad effect on' ("That really did a number on me") came from; I had no idea, and it seems the OED doesn't either: U.S. colloq. (orig. in African-American usage). to do a number (occas. to Lay a number ): to act with destructive force or impact; to criticize or humiliate; (hence) to have a strong, usually adverse effect. From time to time I get insomnia. My Wife also suffers from this inability to get to sleep, but in a much different capacity than what is currently afflicting me. Her's requires a nightly sleep aid to allow her to sleep. Mine strikes intermittently making it impossible to even Lay still in bed. I can't really say what causes it or why it strikes, but it's as if my body has these twitches and leaps in it making it very hard to drift Off to sleep. Sometimes I can pinpoint a cause (usually consumption of large amounts of caffeine prior to bed does the trick) but then there are those nights when it becomes obvious that sleep is not coming soon. So what does one do? Do I lie there in the dark hoping that something will allow me to calm down? Do I give in and take a drug knowing that the sleep will not be true? So, instead I came out here to the computer to type to see if that might help center my thoughts. So I have nothing original or thought provoking to say just musings to pass the time. I suppose I could write a review of THE DARK KNIGHT since I saw it today, but what could I say that would be unique or new to the conversation? (other than that I personally enjoyed it quite a bit despite the unrelenting darkness of the film and yes Heath Ledger is very good...) I could take the time to talk about the state of my beloved LA ANGELS (best record in baseball) but since no one else in mainstream sports media cares about them then why should I ... Pistachio Harvesting on Aegina Greece 9-3-03 Francis said," You''d better get here about 6:00 in the morning tomorrow before it gets hot!" I had offered to come help gather the pistachios, a special experience here on Aegina renowned for its many pistachio harvests. Of course I didn''t sleep well knowing I had to get up early. Never mind, I hopped on Dionissos (my motor bike) and sped over to help Francis and his Wife Charina. The tarp was laid down under the tree, the gloves and hats were on and each one carried a big stick! We reached up in to the trees and knocked down the pistachios, onto the tarp. Leaves, branches, bugs and pistachios began to fill up the tarp. Francis climbed up the tree to reach those far away pistachios and send them hurling down onto the ground. I was told that the pistachios which did not fall Off were not ripe and to leave them on the tree because we couldn''t use them. The tarp was pulled under another tree and the beating began again. When the tarp was bulging with fruit, we Lay down our sticks and began to separate the pistachios from leaves and broken branches. We then pulled up the tarp from every direction and gathered the pistachios in a pile in the center of the mat. The next step was to scoop them into a huge basket and eventually into a large sack. For almost three hours we did this, while we chatted, laughed, groaned and sighed about the sun beginning to appear over the horizon. It would soon be t ... Source: hypem.com --- 78 days ago
