Sure, our fine neon city is gearing up for the next big building boom, with CityCenter leading the way. But with this influx of new people comes a greater need for hotels and convention space. Look no further to Las Vegas Sands, owners of The Venetian and the newly unwrapped Palazzo, as well as the Sands Expo & Convention Center. Plans are now in the works for a reboot of the 18-year-old Expo, with the new center directly across the street and costing $680 million for 1.2 million square feet of space with 7,000 hotel rooms, 1,800 parking spaces, and moving sidewalks to Venetian and Palazzo. If all goes according to plan, we could see the new Expo by 2010. ... Source: www.schaeffersresearch.com --- 11 days ago

Comment letters can often be difficult to get a handle on. Some people, like my friends at Disclsoure Insight, (formerly SEC Insight) put a lot of credence in them. Others, say they’re interesting, but not particularly informative. I was thinking about this because late Friday, Las Vegas Sands (LVS) filed this 10Q late Friday which noted [...] ... Newsweek wrote a piece out this week that cited some interesting data points. The article noted that, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Las Vegas has seen gambling revenues fall only once since 1970: in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks when revenues dropped by 1% from 2001 to 2002. Las Vegas, NV (BRAIN)Venetian and Palazzo resorts' owner is planning a new convention center that could open by 2010. Las Vegas Sands Corp. said it had filed plans with Clark County to build a 1.2 million square-foot facility. It could cost about $680 million and offer as many as 7,000 hotel rooms. Interbike's industry consultant Lance Camisasca wasn't privy to this latest development, but said that Las Vegas Sands Corp. had been "considering to build a new convention center." Interbike will decide in the coming months where the industry will gather for its annual event starting in 2010. Along with Las Vegas, Interbike's home for the past 10 years, Denver and Anaheim are on the table. Camisasca said the possibility of a new Las Vegas convention center by 2010 won't play into Interbike's decision to pick the next venue. "Whatever happens will have no effect on whether or not we stay in Vegas, unless we learn something unexpected in the coming months," Camisasca said. Jason Norman ...
