Singer Jimmy Lafave and Cedar Creek studio owner Fred Remmert have launched Music Road Records, with a roster that includes not only Lafave, but the Subdudes, John Inmon and the Woody Guthrie tribute project. Within the next couple of months, Music Road will release the Lafave rarities set “Bohemia Beat Collection,” which includes live radio performances and unreleased studio tracks from ten years ago. Remmert says Lafave owed Minnesota’s Red House Records one more album, but he was able to get out of that deal to release his next studio LP on Music Road, which has financial backing from a Dallas businessman. ...

JUNEAU The suspects in the murder of a 31-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student may have wanted his 2006 silver Mitsubishi badly enough to kill him, says Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls. Haroon Khans body was recovered Saturday near Watertown. Two people are in custody and a third committed suicide as police approached his home Friday. No one should ever die over property they own, much less over a car, said Nehls. I talked to the (victims) family over the weekend and a relative of Khan reminded me that some people are killed over a pair of shoes or even a jacket. While the Sheriffs Department has not made a positive identification of the body removed from a shallow grave near a Watertown storage unit Saturday afternoon, Khans family issued a statement to the press over the weekend that he had been killed. Nehls said the primary suspect in the case, Travis Zoellick, 20, of Watertown, shot and killed himself late Friday night as authorities approached him at his home. Charges are being filed in the Dodge County District Attorneys Office against two other suspects in the case, Tammy Lafave, 21, of Delafield, and Zachary S. Zaborek, 19, of Watertown. Zaborek is expected to be charged today with aiding a felon. Lafave is being held on charges of party to a crime of first degree homicide and kidnapping and is expected to be charged Tuesday. Nehls said Zoellick allegedly contacted Khan about purchasing his car earlier in t ...

MILWAUKEE A 21-year-old Delafield woman charged with felony murder in the Dodge County death of a Milwaukee student, has pleaded not guilty to the charges in Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Tammi L. Lafave waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, according to media reports. Judge Barry Phillips bound Lafave over for trial. Her next appearance will be 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21. Lafave is charged with felony murder for her role in the Oct. 1 death of 31-year-old Haroon Khan. According to the criminal complaint, Lafave helped kidnap the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student knowing her boyfriend, Travis Zoellick, 20, of Watertown, planned to kill him. She told investigators she was afraid Zoellick her boyfriend of two weeks would break up with her if she did not go along with the plan. Zoellicks friend, Zachary S. Zaborek, 19, of Watertown, has been charged in Dodge County Court with aiding a felon. His preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say Zoellick killed Khan on Oct. 1 after stealing his 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution car. Zoellick shot and killed himself as police approached his home Oct. 3. ...

JUNEAU In his last moments, a Milwaukee student pleaded for his life, telling his captors he had a family and he wouldnt tell anyone about the theft of his car, a court record reveals. But Haroon Khans pleas were in vain and he was brutally stabbed near Watertown last week, his body dumped in a shallow grave by a man who wanted his 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution, according to a complaint. That man, 20-year-old Travis Zoellick of Watertown, shot himself while police were conducting surveillance on his house on Oct. 3, police say. Zoellicks girlfriend, Tammy Lafave, 21, of Delafield, is expected to be charged today (Tuesday) with party to a crime of first-degree homicide and kidnapping. One of Zoellicks friends, Zachary Zaborek, was charged Monday in Dodge County Circuit Court with aiding a felon in connection with the 31-year-old Khans death. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. No one from the victims family was present in the courtroom. Zoellick had told Zaborek of his plans to steal a car and kill the owner if necessary, according to court records. On Saturday, Zaborek was arrested after two people came forward and told police a friend had admitted to killing a man. Dodge County District Attorney Bill Bedker asked for a $100,000 cash bond, citing that Zaborek valued his friendship with a cold-hearted, calculated killer more than doing what was right coming forward with information to police. ...

Where’s our Debra Lafave, people? Seriously, when one of South Carolina’s “Teachers of the Year” gets caught having a sexual relationship with a female student, is it too much to ask that she’s at least a little bit hot? Or that the girl in question is a little bit legal? Apparently so, for such is the sad story of Kanesa Hopkins , the Berkeley County (S.C.) public school teacher who pled guilty Monday to charges of lewd acts with a minor under the age of sixteen. The girl Hopkins was hooking up with was 14 years old at the time the relationship “became sexual,” and was in Hopkins’ math class at Westview Middle School as well as her Sunday School Class. From The Voice : Shockingly, despite some coverage at the time of the arrest in may of 2007, there have been no mainstream media reports on the (guilty) plea … Hopkins received a 5-year suspended sentence and 2-years of probation. Unbelievable. South Carolina’s mainstream media is a friggin’ joke, people. They print whatever lies and excuses the State Department of Education offers for South Carolina having the absolute worst public education system in the history of the Western World (despite getting boatloads of new money ), but then they completely sweep scandals like this one under the rug. For an unvarnished look at several dozen recent S.C. teacher-student sex scandals, click here . And since we owe y’all for linking to that awful picture of Ms. Hopkins earlier, here’s a few ...

JUNEAU Even though she had many chances to stop the murder of a Milwaukee student last week, Tammi Lafave did nothing, afraid her interference with a killers plan would doom their budding relationship, court records reveal. Lafave, 21, of Delafield, is implicated in an alleged plot to steal an automobile and kill its owner, Haroon Khan, 31, of Milwaukee. Dodge County District Attorney Bill Bedker said Lafave was transferred from the Dodge County Jail Tuesday afternoon to the Milwaukee County Jail where she will face felony murder charges. If convicted, Lafave faces over 41 years in prison. An initial hearing date has not been set. Khan was brutally stabbed near Watertown last week, his body dumped in a shallow grave by LaFaves boyfriend, who wanted Khans 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution, according to a criminal complaint. Her boyfriend, Travis Zoellick, whom Lafave met two weeks earlier on MySpace, shot himself while police where conducting surveillance on his house on Oct. 3, according to a Watertown Police Department press release. Zoellicks friend, Zachary Zaborek, was charged Monday in Dodge County Circuit Court with aiding a felon. Zoellick had told Zaborek of his plans to steal a car and kill the owner and later confessed to Zaborek what he had done, according to court records. Based upon a phone conference with Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, I anticipate that Lafave will be transported to Milwaukee County where ...

By Debbie Schlussel In all of the news stories over the last few years about female teachers who have had sex with their male under-aged students, we constantly hear comments like "way to go" for the teen boys. Some can't understand why these illicit relationships are a bad thing and completely improper and immoral, not to mention illegal. Well, one of syndicated Chicago Tribune advice columnist Cheryl Lavin's readers presents a pretty compelling reason why--in addition to the gazillion moral and psychological reasons--it just might not be a good idea: DEAR CHERYL: I'm 42. When I was 17, I had an affair with a 33-year-old high school teacher. It ended when I graduated and I never saw Mrs. Kelly again. Debra Lafave: Some Couldn't Understand Why Relationship with "Hot" Teacher Was Bad Recently, a young man contacted me, claiming I'm his father. He's the right age. He learned, when Mrs. Kelly's husband was hospitalized with kidney failure, that this man who raised him couldn't have been his father. (He was tested as a possible donor.) Mr. Kelly passed away and the young man, Peter, confronted his mother about his paternity. She gave him my name. Now Peter and Mrs. Kelly want me in their lives. I now recognize that my relationship with Mrs. Kelly was abusive. She exploited her power and my immaturity. But at the time I was ashamed. Because of my shame, I never acknowledged the relationship to anyone, and I decided to save sex for marriage ...
