today's papers Keys to the Kingdom By Daniel Politi Posted Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 6:14 AM ET The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal's world-wide newsbox lead with the House approving far-reaching legislation to help ease the U.S. housing crisis. The housing bill would authorize the Treasury Department to invest billions of dollars in troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to protect them from collapse, and it includes a plan that could help hundreds of thousands of homeowners avoid foreclosure. "This is the most important piece of housing legislation in a generation," said Senate banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd. The New York Times leads with word that the Bush administration wants to devote $230 million slated for counterterrorism programs in Pakistan to help the country upgrade its fleet of F-16 attack planes. USA Today leads with the Chinese government announcing that it will allow public protests to go forward during the Olympics in three specially designated city parks. But the protesters will also need a permit, and Chinese activists say it's unlikely the government would actually grant permits for anything that is even remotely controversial. The Los Angeles Times leads locally with word that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger might issue an order that would cut the pay of about 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum wage until a budget is signed. The housing bill passed easily after Presiden ...

Filed under: Arcade , Microsoft Xbox 360 , Simulations It appears NinjaBee is ready to talk a little about its upcoming city builder, A Kingdom for Keflings . Teasing the title in a viral video last month, the company finally gave some details to IGN , details which make the game look and sound like a cross bee-tween SimCity and Gulliver's Travels . It appears the player takes on the roll of a Gulliver-esque character and must build a Kingdom for the Keflings, with the final goal being to create a castle. The game features 50 buildings, a tech tree and optional quests. Isn't it interesting that all the different smaller-scale city builder games, like Hinterland and My Life as a King , are releasing this year? Check out video for A Kingdom for Keflings after the break. [Via X3F ] Continue reading First footage of A Kingdom for Keflings Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

Filed under: Nintendo DS , RPGs Do you heart Kingdom Hearts - especially the idea of a new game in the series for Nintendo DS? Then you'll be happy to hear that the Japanese manual for Square Enix's recently released Dragon Quest V remake contains an ad promising a 2008 release for Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days ... in Japan, of course. Revealed at last year's Tokyo Game Show , the next handheld Kingdom Hearts features a four-player co-op mode and follows the adventures of series protagonist Sora's "Nobody" twin, Roxas (above). Even though the game looks like it's hitting Japan this year, we'll still have to wait out the necessary localization before seeing it Stateside. At least the ad isn't merely a "coming soon" tease like the one for God of War III .
