Abdul Majid Sifaee, director of the Drainage Network Department at the Dubai Municipality, said that apart from the fines, the cost of cleaning and flushing out the storm water lines would also have to be borne by the companies whose tankers were involved in the dumping. The municipality officials said that an area of around 150 metres near the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club had been affected due to sewage. On Saturday, officials from the Drainage and Irrigation Department had told Khaleej Times that the fines for the violators had been increased which were now between Dh50, 000 to Dh100,000.
