Jones was a former first-round pick by the Boston Celtics in 2003. He was sent to the Grizzlies in the trade that brought Marcus Banks and Kendrick Perkins to the Celtics and he played his first three seasons in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies. There have been rumors from the Suns that both Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa are on the trading block. The Cavs have been rumored to be interested in Barbosa but now, an NBA source said the Suns may not be making him available after all. However, the source said that Boris Diaw might be available to be traded. The Suns are still looking for a point guard to back up Steve Nash. They have to keep going back to the 2007 draft... This one deserves a brief preview. Tournament Play So Far Both squads defeated Greece by comfortable margins and beat host China as well, albeit in entirely different ways. Team USA withstood a strong first quarter from the Chinese and then coasted to a big win. On the flip side, the Spanish found themselves down by as much as 14 late and rallied to win in overtime. Furthermore, the Americans ran past Angola and Team Spain won its last game versus Germany. X-Factor For Team USA it has to be a healthy Dwyane Wade. He's come off the bench on fire so far with intensity on both ends of the court. Meanwhile, I'm going with Rudy Fernandez for Spain. The Spaniards have several players that are more household names. Yet Fernandez is second only to Pau Gasol in time on the court and points scored. Guys I Overrated Heading In I'm a huge Jorge Garbajosa fan. However, there's a good chance he's still trying to overcome those leg injuries. He's grabbed a respectable 12 rebounds so far. But that's one less than Jose Calderon's total and Garbajosa minutes and points are low. On the American side it has to be Carlos Boozer. I thought he'd see more time. Instead he's either the 11th or 12th man. I ntriguing Subplot Too easy. Kobe vs. Pau. Ignore the fact that they play different positions. The last time they were on a court together this happened . Still awesome, but I digress. We may learn how to say, "Kendrick Perkins pushed you around at will" ...

Pregame After what can only be described as "one helluva game" on Thursday night, game two of the weekend series promises just as much excitement.  On the hill for the vaunted Angels will be Joe Saunders .   Mike Soscia and company will be watching the left-hander very closely, making sure that there are no ill effects from his collision with Howie Kendrick this past Sunday.  Saunders' last bad start was on June 9, and since then is 5-2 in 11 starts, with a 2.66 ERA in 71 innings.  His success this season has been due in large part to simply having better "stuff".  All of his pitches are coming in at a slightly higher velocity than last season as well, and also in part to simply having another year's experience the 27-year old has reduced how many line drives he gives up by 33%.  Part of this can be attributed to what kind of hitters he's been facing, but he also deserves part of the credit.  Batters aren't squaring up against him as well as they have in the past, and that's a very good sign.  For the Twins to have success, they'll need to be patient (he's not always the most efficient worker) and still find a way to jump on the best pitch they see.  It won't be an easy task. Charged with the job of matching Saunders will be Glen Perkins .  His last time out he managed quite well through the first few innings, and then seemed to either relax, change tactics...or maybe he was just figured out.  No matter what happened, it's been ha ...
