Kasey Kahne. This Dodge driver makes women swoon and cars zoom. But this NASCAR pretty boy couldn't make the Chase and sits a disappointing 14th place in points. Bad year? Yeah, you can say that. Yet Kahne has two wins this season -- three if you count his All-Star race win at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Expect Kahne to be in the spotlight Saturday night in the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The non-Chase driver could make history by becoming the first driver ever to win all three Sprint Cup races at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the same season. Kahne won the Coca-Cola 600 in May when luck led him to Victory Lane. Remember that long night? Tony Stewart was leading by a country mile until he blew a tire with three laps left. Kahne became the primary beneficiary of Smoke's bad luck and won his first race of the season. Just one week before, Kahne had to rely on fan voting to make the All-Star race's main event. He made the most of that opportunity and took the checkered flag. To say the least, Kasey Kahne leads a charmed life at Lowe's Motor Speedway. “Lowe’s is definitely one of my favorite tracks and we have a unique opportunity to win all three races here this year,” Kahne said. “We’ve won all the races here — we are just trying to get it done in one year. It would be a huge accomplishment for me personally and everyone at Gillett Evernham Motorsports to be able to complete the sweep.” ...

CONCORD, N.C. - Kasey Kahne didn't make history, but he made vast improvement and at this point in the Sprint Cup Series season, that's just as important. Kahne's second-place finish in Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway wasn't nearly as surprising or exciting as his May sweep of the all-star and Coca-Cola 600 races at the track, but just as welcomed. "We battled hard all day. We made adjustments and kept working on it and got good track position there at the end when we took two tires," said Kahne, who was bidding to become the first driver in history to win all three Cup events at Charlotte in one season. "We made a charge. I was doing all I could. We gained on (winner Jeff Burton), but we just kind of ran out of time. My car was about done." At one point in the race Kahne was struggling and running 26th a lap down. The call for two tires on the last pit stop was overshadowed only by the Burton team's decision to take only gas on the final stop. ...

ATLANTA — The last time Kasey Kahne showed up to race his NASCAR Sprint Cup car at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, site of this weekend’s Bank of America 500, he left with two big trophies, thanks in large part to his loyal fan following. Kahne was a non-factor in the All-Star Challenge, but he got in the All-Star race on a fan vote. He won that race and came back the next week and won the Coca-Cola 600. He rode that momentum to a victory at Pocono two weeks later and a runner-up finish the week after that at Michigan, which propelled him to seventh in the Sprint Cup standings. Then the wheels ran off his run to the Chase, and he finished the regular season one spot shy of a Chase berth, which leaves him, like all the other non-Chasers, trying to salvage something from the late season by winning a race or two. If he pulls that off this weekend, it would give him a sweep at Lowe’s, the home track for most race teams. And it would allow him to steal some of the attention from the 12 drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, who have dominated the headlines in recent weeks. Interestingly, Kahne said on a recent teleconference that he doesn’t mind the Chase contenders getting the lion’s share of the media coverage. ...
