One of the many things I'll remember about Justine Henin, who retired unexpectedly from tennis on Wednesday, is how she would talk about her mother taking her to the French Open when she was a young girl, and years after her mother passed away, how she won the event in her honor. It always struck an emotional chord with me when she would look skyward at Roland Garros in memory of her mother. ...

Jewish tennis fiend Justin Gimelstob caused a stir with his sexist, provocative, "hateful" comments about Anna Kournikova and other plump-chassis'd ladies of the WTA and has apologized . Gimelstob, who was first featured on this site a couple weeks ago after the Mighty Dan Steinberg interviewed the hirsute former yellow ball-whacker, has been hearing it from everyone, including Serena Williams (his teammate on the Washington K astles) who came to the defense of Kournikova and all ladies who've been terrorized by Gimelstob's mouthiness. "Being pro women's rights, I just think we've come farther than to be referred to ... you know, I don't cuss," [Williams] said Friday, during her post-match press conference. "Anna is a great girl. For anyone to say that about her is kind of ... what can I say? It's not professional." In addition to his apology, Gimelstob also made a donation to the Women's Sports Foundation to show sporty women all over the world that he's just playin' when he calls them "bitches" or comments on how built they are. In a stunning twist of comeuppance which seems highly appropriate at this time, I received an email the day of Deadspin's original Gimelstob post which I found enlightening. ( Sic , throughout, please): Hey AJ, Who else can I tell this to? I am, and have been, fucking Justin Gimelstob's first cousin for 5 years. She's a freak. We've been fuck buddies the whole time, and she likes to fly me to her for week ...

Brad Gilbert lite:  as talktative but content not close to the quality that Gilbert could produce.   Yo Gimelstob!  You owe Barry MacKay an apology, not to mention the viewers.  MacKay referred to Andy Murray as a Brit today and you attempted to correct him by referring to Murray as a Scot.  Well pal, you're wrong.  Murray is Brit AND a Scot.  Scotland is part of the British Isles which makes him British.  Murray is not English and he's British.  Get it?  Try listening a bit more than yakking.  You'll take less hits like this one.   ...

Anna Kournikova doesn’t care about Justin Gimelstob or what he thinks about her. Last month, Gimelstob insulted the 28-year-old tennis diva on a radio show, but fans who were hoping to see the two face off on-court were likely to be disappointed. Kournikova was in Washington on Wednesday night with World Team Tennis’ St. Louis Aces, who were playing the Washington Kastles, featuring the 31-year-old Gimelstob. The two were not scheduled to play each other in mixed doubles. In the radio appearance, Gimelstob used a derogatory term to describe Kournikova and made suggestive comments about another player, Nicole Vaidisova. Kournikova declined to engage in a verbal volley. “I really don’t want to discuss the matter,” Kournikova said. “I don’t want to give it any more attention or meaning that it already has received. I’m just treating this like any other match.” Television commercials featuring Gimelstob promoting the U.S. Open Series were scrapped by the U.S. Tennis Association following his remarks and he was suspended for one match without pay by World Team Tennis, but stayed on the air during Wimbledon for his job with the Tennis Channel. Gimelstob, who retired last year from the tour and sits on the board of the ATP, made no effort to reach out to Kournikova during pre-match festivities. When Kournikova was questioned about Gimelstob, she tried to deflect attention from him. “I actually forgot about it until you just mentioned it,” Kou ...

This so called tennis player who can hardly produce anything in the court has the audacity to talk down on women's players. What a pig - sexist chauvanist.  He's virtually unknown in the tennis world. A pathetic commentator at that.   Already a sport that has lost great interest since the 1970's, tennis is constantly diminishing any value it has left when the channel dedicated to tennis, doesn't even hire broadcasters with any professional experience or at the very least "professionalism."  Justin Gimelstob has absolutely no place being a broadcaster on the Tennis Channel just because he had a sub par professional career.  Do you want to hear the insight on an NFL game from the guy who sat the bench on the Arizona Cardinals?  If you look at all the other credible networks, they hire broadcasters who have substantial professional experience in the field, or by themselves were legends at what they did.  Not only are his remarks offensive, but they have an element of high school.  You know those guys who made fun of you because of their insecurities and ended up the janitor at McDonald's.   Anyways the major point of this post is to make clear the message that the Tennis Channel relays to the public as to their operations.  First, by hiring unqualified people they are showing the biggest reflection of themselves.  You know that old saying "tell me who your with, and I'll tell you who you are" this is the perfect example.  Maybe the executives who think they run a company pretty good aren't as clever as they think they are.  If they hired him in the first place the apple probably doesn't fall far from the tree.  Secondly, Now they send the best message of all by saying ...

Here’s a photo from Down The Line that shows Washington K astles hard-on Justin Gimbelstob admiring Anna Kournikova’s newly-inflated kaploogas at a recent World Team Tennis match in Washington D.C. Gimbelstob, as you may remember, not-so-famously said that Kournikova was a “bitch” and that he “despised her.” Now, he’s apologized for those comments, but Kournikova still thinks he’s a (paraphrasing) classless cock-faced demon. Anyway, that’s all for today. Be well tonight, please come back tomorrow for more sportsy-oriented web stuffing. Thank you for continuing to eyeball Deadspin. After threatening to "hurt" Anna Kournikova, American tennis player Justin Gimelstob is still employed by the Tennis Channel, which apparently hopes a "substantial donation" to the Women's Sports Foundation will be enough to pay off those he offended. "We extend our sincere apologies to those who may have been offended by his comments," the statement said. "There is simply no place in our Tennis Channel family for language that is derogatory or dismissive of women." Yea, right. Perhaps they think violence against women is just a matter of money. ...
