Source: latinoreview.com El Mayimbe here... So Warners is looking for another family friendly adventure franchise to replace Harry Potter. According to reader DR. STRANGEFIST who took a look at the 2nd draft of the script, the upcoming Jonny Quest could be the answer. Dr. Strangefist (who seems to be on a hot streak lately) chimed in his thoughts below. From what I gather, he really liked the script. The 3rd draft has recently commenced so good news to all those Hanna Barbera fans – the project is active. Jonny Quest revolved around a young boy who travels the world with his scientist father, adopted brother from India, Bandit the bulldog, and a government agent assigned to protect them as they go on their adventures investigating scientific mysteries. The show, which is owned by Warner Bros. Animation, aired during primetime on ABC in 1964, lasting only one season. It was updated in the late '80s and '90s as "The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest" on the Cartoon Network. Property's also been spun off as a comic book from DC. The Hollywood remake/adaptation train keeps on rolling, and the passenger this time around is a live action re-imagining of classic Hannah-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest. Although the show originally ran for just one season, it obviously made an impression on plenty of people – it was resurrected twice, turned into TV movies, video games, and comics, and the characters have become pop culture icons. However, it’s been ou ...

I didn't see a thread about it, so I thought I start one. There is a live action Jonny Quest movie franchise due out in 2010 from Dan Mazeau, the same director who did Get Smart. Also, Tin Tin is coming to theaters in 2010 and is to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Those are two that I have my eye... ...

A little blurb about Tim Matheson's appearance and directing of the upcoming episode, by Mike Hughes of Gannet News Service - Matheson shows chops in 'Burn Notice' [via Springfield, Missouri's News Leader] QUOTE Matheson shows chops in 'Burn Notice' MIKE HUGHES • GANNETT NEWS SERVICE • SEPTEMBER 11, 2008 Tonight's Must-See: "Burn Notice," 9 p.m., USA Network. Tim Matheson seems to have been in Hollywood forever. That goes back to his teen years as the voice of Jonny Quest and to his "Animal House" days. Now, at 60, he's a solid director and actor. He does both skillfully here. Matheson plays an ex-spy whose slick charm can't mask his malevolence. There are plot holes, but it's still an OK story, skillfully directed and acted. ... I'll BET it's skillfully directed and acted - damnstraight, skippy! Can't wait until tonight. We love you, Tim Matheson!!!!!!!! *crazed "Broken Rules" BN fan look* ...

Something a tad more recent for the Funnies this Friday. Okay, Uncle Marty has been on a bit of a classic Jonny Quest kick this week. After watching a dozen or so episodes on DVD, I can't get the most awesome cartoon theme song EVAH out of my head, so I thought I'd pass along the mania to all of you! The opening and closing credits from the original Jonny Quest series A very well done mash-up of Jonny Quest and Lost. They fit together like peanut butter and jelly! Really! An AMAZING live version of the theme by the "Live Cartoon Group" the Outer Toons . You hafta see this! Here's a LINK to the Outer Toons web page. These guys would be incredible entertainment at a comic con . . . maybe even one down in Reading. Maybe? Please? ---------------- Now playing: 11 O'Clock Comics Episode 23.mp3 via FoxyTunes ...

Like so many things that I'd like to see reprinted, this one would get caught up in licensed property hell. Still, I always believe that if there is a will, there's a way. I certainly never thought we'd see beautiful hardcover editions of Kubert-era Tarzan, so there is always hope. In the 80s, fledgling comic book publisher Comico got the rights from H-B to produce a comic book series featuring Jonny, Race et al . It's a virtual Who's Who of comic book talent, with the likes of Steve Rude, Dave Stevens and Dan Spiegle getting in on the action. I believe that William Messner-Loebs handled most, if not all, of the writing chores and some of his finest work can be found in these pages. These books are an absolute joy to read. If you are anything like me, these flew under your radar back in the 80s. I've been fortunate enough to pick up most of them in various bargain bins, but it seems unjust that they haven't been compiled into a nice collection. I'm sad to say that the law of diminishing returns kicks in after a while, and the last 20 or so issues of the regular run are all of the map in terms of quality. Too often the story strays from the proven formula and we're given a book dedicated to a single character, even Bandit. While some of these concepts may seem good on paper (such as those featuring a younger Race), they rarely live up to their promise. Truth be told, they are still enjoyable but they 'great' issues here set the bar very ...
