The Maryland Jockey Club, which operates Laurel Park racetrack, has spent more than $377,000 on efforts to force a public vote on whether a slots casino should be allowed at a competing location in Anne Arundel County. The Jockey Club is part of a coalition seeking a November vote on a zoning bill that would allow slots at Arundel Mills mall in Hanover. The Anne Arundel County Council approved the zoning in December, and the state has awarded a license to Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. to operate a casino on the mall property. Hoje o dia vai não vai ser 100%. Eu geralmente cago e ando pros desastres alheios, sequer fiquei triste pelo pessoal do Haiti, muito embora respeite a gravidade do problema e se puder ajudar em algo, cá estou. Não sei se é porque gosto de aviação, mas quando ouço uma notícia assim eu fico meio down. Agora há pouco, menos de uma hora, caiu na cidade de São Paulo o helicóptero da emissora de TV, a Record, após provavelmente ter tido um problema na hélice traseira. O piloto ainda tentou jogar a aeronave no Jockey Clube de SP onde havia um campo gramado. Rumores dizem que o piloto infelizmente não sobreviveu e o repórter está em estado grave. Aqui vai os vídeos. PRESS RELEASE At its February 9, 2010, meeting, The Jockey Club’s Board of Stewards accepted the recommendation of The Jockey Club Registrar to deny Florida resident Lope M. Gonzalez all privileges of The American Stud Book on a permanent basis effective January 1, 2011. This action was taken based upon information received by the Registrar, which included the judgment entered October 14, 2009, in the Circuit Court of Marion County Florida in the matter of the State of Florida vs. Lope M. Gonzalez (Case number 09-MM-7123), and pursuant to Section V, Rule 19(A)(4)(d) of the Principal Rules and Requirements of The American Stud Book concerning acts of cruelty committed to a horse. Denial of all privileges of The American Stud Book includes the privilege to register foals or submit any documents related to foal registration. The January 1, 2011, effective date allows registration of foals already conceived prior to the judgment. Ogden Mills Phipps, the chairman of The Jockey Club, said, “The Jockey Club fully supports and assists law enforcement agencies, the courts and racing regulatory authorities in the investigation of matters involving cruelty to Thoroughbreds. I’m going back to my all time favorite spirit this week, gin. It’s been far too long since I’ve ventured down this path and it’s time I change that. This week we’re heading back to the pages of the Savoy for an old recipe. In flipping through the recipes, the Jockey Club Cocktail jumped out as a unique combination of interesting flavors. Another unique twist in this recipe is that it appears, at first glance, quite dry. Should be a good time. I started the week with the classic Savoy recipe for the Jockey Club Cocktail and found it be mediocre at best. The flavor of the creme de noyau was completely lost to the gin and bitters. The lemon juice shined through, but only dimly. Finally, there was nearly no sweetness at all. It was okay, but definitely not one that I’ll be mixing for myself or others again. Looking further I found that the current recipes changed the Savoy formula drastically. Of this new breed I first mixed up the recipe from Difford’s Guide #8. Jockey Club Cocktail (Difford's Guide #8) 2 oz Gin 1/2 oz Amaretto 1/2 oz Lemon Juice 1 Dash Angostura Bitters 1 Dash Orange Bitters This is much better! Fair level of sweetness, could be a touch more. The bitters are a bit too light, though. I think two dashes would serve this drink better. From there, my search continued and I landed on the Joy of Mixology recipe. Jockey Club Cocktail #2 (Joy of Mixology) 2 oz Gin 3/4 oz Amaretto 3/4 oz Lemon Juice Angostura Bitters to Taste You’ll note that for his recipe Regan has changed up the name. He felt that his reformulation was sufficiently different from the original as to necessitate a different name. While I agree in principal, I don’t think anyone will be drinking the Savoy version of this drink. So, in that light, I think it would be safe to simply call it the Jockey Club Cocktail. By Liz Farmer Daily Record Business Writer A coalition formed to halt the state’s largest planned slots development near the Arundel Mills mall says it has succeeded in its petition drive to allow county voters to decide whether to allow the casino to go forward. The petitioners, led by the Maryland Jockey Club, which operates the Laurel Park race track, said in a news release that they had submitted 23,702 signatures in support of a referendum to the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections Thursday afternoon. That number far exceeds the 9,395 signatures that were needed by Friday and handily beats the 18,790 signatures required to place the zoning ordinance on the ballot in November.
