Man, do we need a ballgame or what? Here's what passes for baseball news on a slow news day: James Patrick Edmonds and Allison Jayne Raski, both of Creve Coeur, were couple No. 11 of the 25 who got married Wednesday at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Clayton. Edmonds, now a Chicago Cub, was better known to Cardinals fans for whom he patrolled center field at Busch Stadium for eight years as Jim Edmonds or "Jimmy Ballgame." Edmonds, 38, and Raski, 28, tied the knot in the chambers of Judge Michael T. Jamison, who wished the newlyweds good luck after performing the brief ceremony. Both were casually dressed. Edmonds wore a T-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. Raski, one observer noted, sported a nice-sized diamond ring. The couple have a young son, Landon. Raski graduated from high school in Zeigler, a town of about 1,700 in Southern Illinois. ...

Written by athooks Obviously today is a big day. It’s a holiday, 1. It’s also the start of a crucial 3 game series with the division leader Chicago Cubs. So, you say you're a Cubs fan... you say you like Jim Edmonds batting 5th, because he supplies the lefty power Piniella has pined for... you say, "Who cares that he used to be a Cardinal, he's a Cub now!!" Or, you say you're a die-hard, bleeding blue, Billy Goat hating Cubs fan, who HAS hated Jim Edmonds for years, but you feel he made himself a true Cub this weekend, by hitting two opposite field home runs for the Cubs. Perhaps you're the skeptical type, holding out for the next Cubs Cardinals matchup, to see if Edmonds is secretly a redbird spy, sent by the lowly Padres to infiltrate our club, and give the Cards the advantage they need against us. Baseball is a game of passion, where tempers run hot, blood boils, fights break out, and purpose pitches play chin music all summer long.  A game of great history, many fans think back about the all time great players, the men who played entire careers with one team, maybe two.  Ty Cobb never won a World Series, played all but two years with the Detroit Tigers.  Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio won many, all with the New York Yankees.  Bob Gibson was a Cardinal, Sandy Koufax was a Dodger, and Willie Mays was a Giant.  Players have come to be seen not as individuals, but rather parts of the whole team.  This causes many fans to dislike players who behave like individuals, demanding higher contracts, extensions, or trades.  Many players understand the team concept.  In 2006, in the middle ...

Do we finally except the ex-card as a Cubbie? Edmonds is batting .311 with 4 homers and16RBIs in 25 games since joining our Beloved Cubs. Judging by the crowd reaction and my reaction saturday on the golf course(doing my impression of riding a bull). Yes i had a radio to listen to the ronnie and pat. Jimmy was a good call by Jim Hendry. Let's go CUBBIES 32-8 at home i'll be on leave in a few weeks can't wait to go to a game. only a few more weeks ...

BAM Thank you for coming today. We first want to thank Ozzie Guillen for his timely coaching in the fourth inning of today's game against the White Shlox for not lifting his pitcher Mr. Contreras when he should have.  We appreciate his signal contribution to the Chicago Cubs by providing them a live fire exercise in batting pratice and trust that this will not require him to engage in further therapeutic application of sensitivity psychoanalysis.  The Jim Edmonds Fan Club recognizes that his blaming of alleged sightings of rats in the batting practice cages could be a manifestation of further mental aberrences, however, and wishes to encourage Mr. Guillen to continue to take his Prozac, avoid conflict, and cut all the four corners off his Pop Tarts in the morning. Main item of business: We have continued to have significant input from fans about the arrival of Chicago Cub status to Jim Edmonds. At our last meeting, the vote was unanimous that Jim would be granted full recognition as a bona fide roster player for the Chicago National League team with all the rights and privileges thereof. We understand that a significant mass of Cub fans are moving Jim Edmonds Cub jerseys through UPS terminals, that he may have been spotted buying drinks all around at Murphys after one game, and that a grass roots campaign is moving to have a "Jim Edmonds Bobblehead Night" during the last Cubs home stand in September for the first 15,000 Trixies wh ...

I call this meeting to order.  BAM Thank you for coming today. We first want to thank Eddie Vedder for opening up our meeting with his unplugged version of "Go Cubs Go," and want to commend him for his donation of proceeds for the purchase of the CD single to Cubs Care. Buy them as you leave today, folks .. take some home and leave them in your Sox fan brother-in-law's Camaro CD player on 10. Main item of business: We have had significant input from fans about the advent of former Cardinal Jim Edmonds. I personally was not thrilled with his acquisition and unfortunately, not very many others have been. In fact, it has been stated that Jim has gone on record stating that many left field Cub fans have made him feel as if he is still wearing the foul hues of the Red Turds. After his performance in today's final game with the Rockies, we have seen indications that Jim has definitely made signs of being officially affiliated with the Cubs, with indications like RBI's and competitive AB's. The difficult days Jim has unfortunately experienced appear to be unnecessarily dragged out. However, definitive proof that Edmunds has arrived in Chicago is that the trixies at Murphy's like him. He therefore must be an OK guy.   And the floor now has received a motion by Francine LeFlesh, Trixie # 2 on the right, that the Cub Nation recognize the Jim Edmonds Fan Club, with minimal participation from the fans being that he be accepted as a bona fide ...

Considering alot of teams thought he was on his last legs not many people thought Edmonds would still be in the MLB right now.  I do not see why they are quick to give up on old veterans lately. The cubs and pinella took a chance and I assume they caught lightning in a bottle. For the past week Edmonds has been the best hitter in baseball in limited at bats. In 11 abs he has 7 hits 6 of those for extra bases. Of those 7 hits he has collected 4 doubles , 1 triple and 1 home run. Also over those 7 hits he has knocked in 7 RBI. He is slugging 1.455 and his .OPS is 2.121 . These are some of the most incredible stats I have ever seen over a 10 at bat period. Only Mark Whitten and his 4 home run performance and 12 rbi can lay claim to a better short ride then this one. Lets hope he keeps up the performance in the platoon with Reed Johnson. The incredible thing is Edmonds knocked in all those runs when it meant something. He must be geared up for the clutch. Now imagine for a second if that was our guy with Gomes in RF. Would be a nice 1-2 punch. Even a 37 year old Edmonds is a gold glover in right. ...

I decided to comment on some of the things I’ve noticed about the team over the last few days. Eric Patterson as a left fielder is over - ”We’ll put somebody else out there, We’ll make some changes and go from there.” ~ Lou Piniella. E-Pat had a bit of a tough day out there with [...] ...
