On a wet field, Mansfield beat Sayre 2-0 in a well-played Northern Tier League game. All the scoring was in the first half with Jordon Derstine scoring with 20:15 remaining and Brandon Jayne sending a low shot in with 18:06 remaining. Both teams had chances later in the game but neither team scored. Mansfield had 17 shots, five corner kicks and goalie Tom Reese had eight saves. Sayre had 13 shots, one corner kick and goalies Tyler Young and Riley Card combined for 11 saves. The loss gives Sayre a 3-1 overall record and the Redskins are 1-1 in the NTL. Sayre will next play at home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Elkland. JV: The JV game ended in a 0-0 tie. GIRLS SOCCER Sayre 3, Wellsboro 2 Sayre won the first half Saturday at Wellsboro, then held on for the Northern Tier League win. The win evens Sayre’s overall record at 2-2 and NTL mark at 1-1. Megan Kyc got the Redskins on the board with a goal off a Rachel Polinski corner 6:13 into the contest, then beat the Wellsboro goalie one-on-one off a Jessica Haiges assist at the 15:40 mark to put Sayre up 2-0. Polinski chipped a shot into the net to put her name in the scoring column at the 27:48 mark with an assist to Haiges. The homestanding Hornets got their offense crankd up in the second half.
