There were four familiar names this year among the nominees for the 2007 Film Independent's Spirit Award for best actor -- Don Cheadle, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Frank Langella and Tony Leung, writes Susan King. But there was one name few filmgoers had heard before: Pedro Castaneda, who was nominated for his work in the leisurely paced Spanish-language drama "August Evening." The stocky, gray-haired Castaneda had never acted, much less made a movie, before "August Evening," for which he and his castmates were honored at last year's Los Angeles Film Festival. The film opens Friday. The 53-year-old native of Laredo, Texas, was working in the computer business in San Antonio when he was spotted by filmmaker Chris Eska. The writer-director, who makes his feature debut with "August Evening," thought the soft-spoken Castaneda had the perfect look for the role of Jaime, an undocumented farmworker toiling on a Texas chicken farm whose life is turned upside down when his beloved wife suddenly dies. Aquí os dejo el tercer y, al parecer, definitivo trailer de ‘The Spirit’ , la adaptación al cine de las aventuras del famoso personaje creado por Will Eisner que ha dirigido Frank Miller . Es el avance con más escenas de la película y por eso el más útil para hacernos una idea sobre la misma. Parece ‘Sin City’, eso es evidente, pero también es lo de menos, creo yo. Lo importante es que una vez se apaguen las luces del cine, la película funcione, sea entretenida y Miller nos ofrezca un buen espectáculo. Como os decía cuando veíamos las últimas imágenes del film, me fío de este auténtico genio del cómic y no pienso perderme su debut como director. Ya sabéis, ‘The Spirit’ se estrena el día de navidad, el próximo 25 de diciembre, tanto en Estados Unidos como en España. Gabriel Macht encarna a Danny Colt, un policía que finge su muerte para adoptar una nueva identidad, Spirit, un héroe cuya misión es combatir el crimen en Central City. Samuel L. Jackson interpreta a Octopus, el principal villano al que Spirit deberá hacer frente. Last year, John Sayles wonderfully took on the world of blues, guitars, and rock 'n' roll with Honeydripper . Now it looks like that was a warm-up for something even better. In a discussion with Collider , Charles S. Dutton revealed that he's working on an HBO miniseries about Louis Armstrong with Quincy Jones , and Sayles is writing the script. Dutton might play the older Louis, and might direct the first few hours of the 6-hour-long miniseries. "Quincy and I were trying to do it 15 years ago.
