With 7digital having already gone the DRM-free route last month with all of the major music labels, heavy hitter Play.com has just followed suit, offering over 3 million songs without any nasty DRM encryption. The PlayDigital music service has just signed up Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal, to add to its existing DRM-free catalogue from EMI. Not only that but Play.com is making certain music cheaper than the same downloads on Itunes. The service will be offering the Top 100 singles from 65p each compared to Itunes 79p tracks. Albums start at £4.99. Wendy Snowdon, head of PlayDigital, commented: "We now have an offer to rival that of Itunes, yet in a format that gives the consumer choice and at a more appealing price.
