HP is looking to expand its Ipaq beyond the stodgy business world. According to The Wall Street Journal , the company is looking to position its next smart device to consumers, as well. Filed under: Cellphones Details on this one are about as light as can be at the moment, but The Wall Street Journal has it that HP is aiming to expand its Ipaq smartphone line into the consumer market with a new model that it'll market to both average consumers and corporate users alike. According to "people briefed on the plan," the phone will have both a touchscreen and a keypad and, naturally, it'll run Windows Mobile 6.1 -- oh, and it'll be able to "send and receive emails, and access the Internet." While there's no indication of a price just yet, word is the device will be available in Europe first within the next two months, with a worldwide release to follow sometime thereafter. HP seems ready to develop their Ipaq smartphone line and adapt it for the consumer model. The Wall Street Journal reports that a future device is going to be very useful to both consumers and corporate users. The phone will apparently come with a touchscreen and a keypad and it will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 . There are no details about the future model. We don’t know the actual arrival date and how much it will cost. We’d like to have a picture for it too (the Ipaq above is a 500 series ), and it looks we might get one soon. The new Ipaq might be available in Europe sometime within the next two months or so, while the rest of the world would get it soon after. The new Sony Ericsson prototype design for a phone features a still camera, video camera, and will come with PDA and music/media functions. According top 3GWeek , the prototype will have handwriting recognition, WiFi, and a touchscreen. What is unique about the phone is that the area surrounding the directional pad and hardware buttons actually swivel out. Other than that, the design looks very reminiscent of the Ipaq hx4700 Pocket PC from HP. Not so sure what is so special about the "all-in-one" concept phone design from our Scandinavian friends as the XPERIA X1 can handle much of the same functions, come in a sleeker design, and has a full QWERTY keyboard.
