Samsung is reportedly looking into the acquisition of SanDisk Corp. A union of two Flash memory giants sure to get the attention Toshiba (SanDisk's partner-in-NAND) and that of anti-trusters from Korea to Intel . To makes matters even more interesting, Seagate was also courting SanDisk whose stock price has plummeted from $56 to just over $13 per share since this time last year. Hey investors, sounds like an ideal premise for a bidding war to us. Then again, we only took Econ101 to sit in a room with real live girls. In a comment on this market rumor and speculation, SanDisk just issued the following statement: "SanDisk periodically has conversations with multiple parties, including Samsung, regarding a variety of potential business opportunities. We evaluate all of these opportunities, but maintain a policy of not commenting on market rumors or speculation." Intel Corp. has decided to postpone the release of its central processing units (CPUs) with built-in graphics core to 2010 because of the "customer feedback", according to a slide from a roadmap of the chipmaker published by a web-site. “Intel remains committed to delivering stable, high quality, industry leading platforms on a predictable cadence. Based on 2008 client platform learnings and customer feedback, we have realigned our features and schedules for 2009 mainstream Nehalem chips,” a statement published on a slide that resembles a slide from Intel’s roadmap, reads. The slide was revealed by HKEPC web-site. Originally planned to be released in 2009, code-named Auburndale processor for mobile computers and Havendale chip for desktop PCs (both based on Nehalem micro-architecture) are now scheduled to be launched in early 2010, based on the information from the slide. The delay is hardly critical for Intel in terms of revenue, but since those chips greatly simplify the company’s production process, it is strange that Intel decided to delay such products. Advanced Micro Devices plans to return its premium class FX-series processors to the market sometime in the middle of next year. The question is whether the new central processing units (CPUs) will truly be capable of successfully competing against rivals. AMD Athlon 64 FX processors were first release back in 2003 to address the market of computer enthusiasts and gamers, however, when Advanced Micro Devices lost its performance crown on the x86 chip market in 2006, the firm had to cease production of “FX” parts since they were not competitive against Intel Corp.’s products. There were no new “FX” chips in 2007 and in 2008, but AMD hopes that in mid-2009 the “FX” will return. The code-named Deneb FX microprocessors that are projected to be launched sometime in the middle of next year will feature four processing engines, shared level-three cache, dual-channel DDR2 (up to PC2-8500, 1066MHz) and DDR3 (up to PC3-10666, 1333MHz) memory controller, according to sources with knowledge of AMD’s plans. The new chips are projected to utilize AM3 form-factor, which means better system flexibility. View: The full story @ Xbit-Labs Read full story... ...

Chipmaker, Intel Corp., continues to demonstrate its commitment to WiMAX broadband technology, investing in a 3G/4G global data roaming startup called Aicent Inc. Aicent operates one of the world’s leading multimedia messaging exchanges, and will help Intel expand and accelerate its research and development of new interoperability technologies that allow for broad adoption of WiMAX. Intel Capital reportedly invested $3 million in Aicent, and is listed (along with Qualcomm) as a repeat investor on the company’s website. Intel, which dubbed 2008 the “year of WiMAX” at its 2007 Developer Forum, is a major financial backer of an effort by Clearwire and Sprint Nextel to build WiMAX networks throughout the United States. “Momentum for WiMAX is strong, with more than 300 fixed and mobile WiMAX trials and commercial deployments in over 100 countries,” said Intel Capital’s senior director, Ranjeet Alexis, in a statement. “With Aicent’s experience in the wireless market segment, Aicent is poised to play a key role in worldwide adoption of WiMAX.” ...

Small-cap stocks pushed higher Wednesday, finding comfort in soft energy and firm dollar trends, even as large-cap stocks fretted about global growth worries and a mixed picture on the economic front. The Russell 2000 (NYSE: IWM ) closed up 3.40, or 0.46%, at 741.91. Small caps outperformed large-cap index products and the straight dollar spread of the S&P 500 against the Russell 2000 tumbled to fresh move lows and is at the lowest point in well more than a year. For the day, the S&P 500 was down 0.20% and is now down 13.1% on the year. Meanwhile, the Dow was up 0.14% today and is off 13% for the year. The biggest losses today were suffered in the technology arena, with the tech-laden Nasdaq 100 sinking 0.9%. The terrain right now seems particularly difficult for investors to navigate. Just because crude oil prices sink, it doesn’t necessarily mean the overall stock market will rally. And just because the dollar is strong, it doesn’t necessarily mean money is shifting into U.S. assets. There are growing concerns that the slide in energy prices is more a reflection of a slowing global economic environment, which could pinch overseas demand for U.S. goods — and U.S. exports were about the only bright spot in the recent economic slowdown. Along those same lines, American technology companies are cautioning that global customers may cut back on spending, which has been a chilly issue tech stocks. In today’s action, Intel Corp. (Nasdaq ...
