International cricket megastars with large paychecks to match their egos, Bollywood's elite actors, big business magnates, provocatively dressed cheerleaders, the big sports media, huge worldwide audience, deep pocket sponsors all come together to put on spectacular three hour, 2020 games of the two newly formed Indian cricketing leagues. This is a revolution in the world of cricket, a sleepy, colonial era, gentleman's game that the British brought to their colonies including India and Pakistan. Taking a leaf from the sports leagues in US and Europe, it represents a coming of age for the business of sports in India. According to the New York Times, the Indian billionaires are for the first time staking their prestige on sports teams. The Indian Premier League’s most expensive franchise, at nearly $111.9 million, is the Mumbai Indians, fittingly owned by India’s Richest Man, Mukesh Ambani. The flamboyant liquor baron Vijay Mallya picked up the Bangalore-based Royal Challengers for $111.6 million, and the actor Shah Rukh Khan is backing the Kolkata Knight Riders for $75.09 million. Forbes magazine reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a nonprofit body controlling the game in the country, has racked up $1 billion to date from selling commercial rights to Indian cricket for the next five years. (One source: Nike paid $45 million to flash its logo on players' apparel and to sell garments to cricket fans.) "It's all ... Source: sutherla.blogspot.com --- 32 days ago
Softbank Eyes World's Top Mobile Internet Company Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son has set a goal to become the world's largest mobile Internet company, he said Saturday in a speech aimed at inspiring owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China. Calling Softbank "the Internet version of Berkshire Hathaway," referring to the company of the world's Richest Man, Warren Buffett, Son sees the mobile Internet as the future of connected communications. He cited Japan's 80 percent penetration rate for 3G (third generation telephony). "In the past, we learned from the U.S...for 3G, Japan is bringing the new technology. I think this will happen in the rest of the world," he said. He also noted that currently China and India, which are among the world's top five mobile markets, have no 3G services, and therefore the potential for growth is huge. Without making any announcements, Son made it clear that he will continue to look for investment opportunities in China. "In the future, if you do not become number one in China, you will not be the number one in the world." Son has so far found success here with his investment in Alibaba, which went public late last year, and Softbank holds a 14 percent stake in social networking site Xiaonei, with an option to increase its holdings to as much as 40 percent. Softbank is already the largest Internet company in Asia by market capitalization (currently 2.1 trillion yen or US$19.53 billion). It earn ... Source: theipoguru.blogspot.com --- 41 days ago
Stage Set for the Proxy Vote ? The much touted deal between the Anil Ambani group company RCOM and South African telecom company MTN has been called off due to regulatory issues. After stealing the thunder from the Bharti group which first dealt with the South Africa based MTN, RCom found the carpet swept from under its feet when the Mukesh Ambani group invoked a clause from their past dissociation to claim the first right of refusal to any deal entered by RCOM. After a game of one-upsmanship which actually made them look small in the eyes of investors ( some now blame the warring siblings for their portfolio values getting smaller by the day ), RIL commenced the arbitration process against RCOM recently and nominated an arbitrator to resolve the dispute. Having had enough of being caught in this cross-fire, MTN decided to walk out of the deal and may now be constrained to again knock on the doors of the less controversial Bharti group. So, will this impact the share price of RCom on Monday morning ? The jury is still out on that. Rest assured though that the way the Parliamentary vote goes on Tuesday will have a bearing on its share price on Wednesday. And conversely, on that of RIL too, of course. The moot question then is -- has the Parliamentary vote too become a proxy war between India’s Richest brothers who were in the race for the tag of the Richest Man in the world too during the first fifteen days of this year ? No prizes for ... Source: www.infozine.com --- 55 days ago

Back in March 08, I addressed the subject of the World's Largest House . Bizarrely, this post became the most popular on my blog, and has stayed in the top 3 most frequently hit pages every day since then. At the time, I noted that the Biltmore House built by the Vanderbilt family was most likely the largest private home in the world. However, it appears that an India business Man has taken umbrage at this post and decided to claim the crown of the owner of the world's biggest home. He is none other than Mukesh Ambani, and he is building a 400,000 square foot home in Mumbai, India. Now, I did a quick conversion and that works out at over 37,000 square metres of home sweet home ( conversion tool online here ). Apparently, this is to be spread across 27 stories and will include 3 helicopter pads, the hanging gardens of Mumbai, a yoga studio and a private ice palace. It will also have a staff of over 600. Mukesh Ambani is listed on Wikipedia as being the world's 5th Richest Man, and he made his money (US$43 billion and counting) in petro-chemicals , according to Forbes. So there you have it. The new biggest house in the world. Videos of the biggest house here. ... Source: www.nileshbabu.com --- 61 days ago

So I'm housesitting for some friends who are currently in India, and today I went and mowed their lawn. I'd forgotten how much fun I used to have as a kid mowing our lawn. I'd pretend that my name was Buck Manly, the world's Richest Man, and I was using the largest mower ever to cut down acres of Amazon rain forest. I'd laugh maniacally, and imagine that my enemies were trapped among the trees, protesting my callousness, and their screams were in vain as the giant blades sucked them up to be sliced into pieces. When I told Jessica about this, she started giggling and demanded that I post this. ... Source: wordcreates.blogspot.com --- 12 days ago
Many years ago the one time Richest Man, Adnan_Khashoggi , visited Chennai and had a press conference in Taj Coromandal. Like most rich men he was simple too. Spoke simple words and simple theories. I recently bumped into him as I was with Ariel Sharon (reading about him) Adnan Khashoggi was actually surprised at the problems India was facing he said... You have water you have sun now whats the problem. The problem he does not know, we have people too. People who are anti work and anti innovation. "I for one believe that over the ages India has been consistently failed by all the institutions, its only hope lies with the Industry. So far they are doing a great job about it. I was reading Anand Mahindra, of Mahindra group, writing about the alternate energy. I found his plea very passionate. "One might think that India would be as obsessed as the rest of the world is with finding alternate energy solutions. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough evidence of that. But why aren’t we willing to grab this potential inflection point, and with our low-cost innovation skills tip the world into the widespread use of viable alternative energy sources?" Read more ... Towering high above Mumbai and far from the teeming shanty towns, a billion-dollar home, an oasis of ultimate luxury, is being built for the world's fifth-Richest Man. By Andrew Buncombe Anyone wishing to cast their eyes upon Mukesh Ambani's new house will very quickly find themselves with a stiff neck. The 27-storey tower soars huge and unmissable amid the greenery and quiet of the expensive Mumbai suburb of Malabar Hill. Abuzz with the noise of cranes and shouts of helmeted workmen, it is a human ants' nest of activity, set vertical amid the skyline of this booming city. Mr Ambani is reckoned to be the world's fifth-Richest Man and when his extraordinary property is completed in an estimated six months, the $1bn (£500m) building named Antilia will be the priciest house in the world. "Yes, it will be the most expensive," said a shopkeeper, whose humble store stands next to the tower. He handed over a newspaper cutting about Mr Ambani that he had pinned to the wall. Mukesh Ambani, aged 51 and said to be worth $43bn, is used to being in the headlines. Usually, it is about his business dealings as chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, India's largest private company. Often it is about his infamous ongoing squabble with his younger brother, Anil, 49, a fellow industrialist with whom he fell out after their father's death; he is said to be the world's sixth-Richest Man. On other occasions it is for his free-flowing spending ... Source: indiastreet.blogspot.com --- 57 days ago
By Aditya Rao For a sport that is played by just 12 countries on a regular basis, the amount of money it generates is simply phenomenal. Cricket is no longer about being that elitist sport played by the members of the East India company. It’s about cash, plain and simple and when it comes to that India runs the show. The current experiment in this cash creation exercise is the brain child of the BCCI and marketed by its chairman, a Man described by many as some sort of a marketing genius. It’s called the IPL (Indian Premier League) and it’s about 20/20 while the Man in question is named Lalit Modi. While you can read about the nuances of the game by blogger Amit Varma , consider the business side of it. The BCCI has overtaken England’s Cricket board in terms of the amount of money that each generates thus making it the #1 Cricketing body in India and the World. With the IPL, it is slated to make even more. Not only did they sell the rights to the 44 day tournament to Sony Entertainment Television for a whopping $1.03 billion but also everything else that they possibly could to a number of franchises. That means licensing and merchandising rights, copyrights and trade licenses. That’s just the start of it. The IPL consists of 8 teams filled with the best possible players in World Cricket. They auctioned the best players to those teams which were purchased by some of the World’s Richest including Mukesh Ambani of Reliance and Vijay Mallya ... As per Fareed Zakaria's new book the post American world.. The tallest building in the world is now in Taipei, and it will soon be overtaken by one being built in Dubai. The world's Richest Man is Mexican, and its largest publicly traded corporation is Chinese. The world's biggest plane is built in Russia and Ukraine, its leading refinery is under construction in India, and its largest factories are all in China. By many measures, London is becoming the leading financial center, and the United Arab Emirates is home to the most richly endowed investment fund. Once quintessentially American icons have been appropriated by foreigners. The world's largest Ferris wheel is in Singapore. Its number one casino is not in Las Vegas but in Macao, which has also overtaken Vegas in annual gambling revenues. The biggest movie industry, in terms of both movies made and tickets sold, is Bollywood, not Hollywood. Even shopping, America's greatest sporting activity, has gone global. Of the top ten malls in the world, only one is in the United States; the world's biggest is in Beijing. Such lists are arbitrary, but it is striking that only ten years ago, America was at the top in many, if not most, of these categories. ... Find more results for India's Richest Man on RSSMicro.com |
