Source: phandroid.com --- 37 minutes ago Often times manufacturers will take a high-end handset, make it smaller, slightly lower the specs, slap a name like “Lite” or “Mini” on it, slash the price and call it a day. Sony Ericsson is doing something similar with the X10 and we’ve seen Samsung do it with the Galaxy. But it happens everywhere. Now, thanks to a rumor from TechTree , we’re wondering if the same thing will happen to the Nexus One on its way to India. The rumors are suggesting that the phone, which will be targeted towards developing markets where consumers have less disposable income, will keep its 3.7-inch screen but with a slimmer frame and less fancy innards. Whether it will be called the Nexus One, Nexus One Lite, or something else remains to be seen. And to be honest, whether this rumor holds any weight remains to be seen as well – it doesn’t seem like the most likely of scenarios but in this industry we’ve learned anything is possible. Source: www.carbonfund.org --- 40 minutes ago The New York Times has reported that both China and India have agreed to sign on to the Copenhagen Accord to reduce emissions. China and India are two of the largest emitters of global warming causing greenhouse gas emissions. The Accord , reached at the United Nations Conference of the Parties (or COP15) meeting in Copenhagen last December, commits all the signatories to reduce emissions to help keep global temperature increases below 2 degrees C (3.6 degrees F) from pre-industrial levels. To date, over 100 countries have signed on to the Accord. While the Copenhagen Accord is non-binding, it may prove to be the precursor to a legally binding global agreement. The world’s largest emitters like the US, Canada, India and China will have responsibility for some of the largest reductions, but even small nations will be provided incentives to reduce. A key component of the Accord is the inclusion of up to $100 billion a year in subsidies for developing nations to adapt to climate change impacts and implement cleaner technologies. With India and China on board, hopefully this paves the way for the US to take strong action on climate change. The climate bills that have been debated in Congress have stalled for the time being, but may get another shot for a vote before the year is up. While their passage is nowhere near a given, at least one excuse for inaction ( what about China and India?!?! ) is no longer on the table. Image Courtesy of ...

I was walking through the village talking to another intern when a man came out of his house and started speaking with us...in English. He said he'd heard us and wanted to see who we were. His name was Chanchal and he was visiting from BC, Canada. He had grown up in the village and built a monster house for when he came back to visit. Later that afternoon he showed up at my house for chai. He wanted to talk to me so I had chai with him. He seemed quite friendly, and it was nice to meet an Indian person who spoke fluent English. He'd been living in Canada for decades after all, and had a daughter my age, plus a grandchild and wife. He then invited me to see his house, and I was curious given it was so big. So went went over to his place and he really did have it decked out. He actually had hot showers, a nice big kitchen, satellite, and toilet paper! I stayed for a while and we talked about what I was doing there. He volunteered to help introduce me to people as he was well respected within the village, and he said he'd be happy to interpret for me and educate me about Punjabi culture. I was excited to learn and to have made a contact on my own. I figured he could be the solution to my Jinder problems since he would be staying for 3 months. I don't feel like going into detail, but he ended up trying to kiss me and as ...

Source: www.intomobile.com --- 1 hour ago The Nexus One is Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )’s ‘vision’ of what a phone should be, although more so on the software side. Not to say it’s without its problems , but the Nexus One is currently the hottest device you can by at the moment. HTC is the hardware manufacture, and surely the internals of the Nexus One were up to par with Google’s standards. The N1 is available in select countries at the moment, but rumor has it that the device will be coming to India soon, only slightly ‘dumber’ version hardware wise. This is in no way confirmed, but the N1 is a premium device, and to make it cheaper means lowering some specifications. The core features of the device will stay the same; screen size, Snapdragon, software, etc. What is more probable to be shaved down is internal memory, camera megapixel count, and so on. It’s also rumored that the Indian version will be slightly slimmer, which doesn’t necessarily sound all that bad. Whereas the internal memory may end up being an issue, I wouldn’t worry about losing a couple megapixels on my camera. I just don’t use the camera enough. However, this could make others angry, especially if it is the only option they have. Where some people may think it bad of Google to shave off some specifications of their device down, I think it’s a good idea. My only suggestion is to offer both the Nexus One and the Nexus One (.5) in their online store, available to anyone, U.S. included, and not just India. Not ev ...
Source: www.doctorswithoutborders.org --- 1 hour ago Geneva/New Delhi, March 12, 2010 – As the final round of closed-door negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU) is about to start this month, people living with HIV/AIDS are protesting to ensure Indian negotiators do not give in to pressure to accept terms that will seriously hamper access to medicines for millions of people living in the developing world. “We are marching to call on the Indian government not to trade away our lives,” said Loon Gangte, president of the Delhi Network of Positive People (DNP+). “Lifelong treatment for people living with HIV depends on continued access to newer AIDS medicines. Because of international trade rules that India has already signed in the past, some of our newer AIDS medicines are already patented and completely unaffordable. We are protesting against India’s accepting terms that would further compromise access to life-saving medicine.” In 2005, in order to comply with the international trade rules, India was obliged to grant patents on medicines, but the country also introduced measures to protect public health and limit abusive patenting. But the bilateral trade agreement negotiated with the EU now threatens to impose even higher standards of intellectual property protection, enabling companies to maintain prohibitively high prices on medicines. “As the source of 92 percent of the AIDS medicines used in developing countries today, India is t ...

Source: www.travelpod.com --- 1 hour ago Jump to the full entry & travel map Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India I was in Rishikesh for a day and a half before I became violently ill. I had no idea what I'd managed to catch at the time. I thought it was just some nasty form of Traveler's Diarrhea. One minute I was perfectly fine, the next I had brutal diarrhea. The next day I woke up and was so dizzy and disoriented it felt like I was drunk. I almost passed out in a shop, and had to spend the day in bed. I also had chills and could not get warm despite the 4 wool blankets on my bed. The next day was not much better, my chills had turned into a fever, I still had to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes, and I was by now feeling hungover rather than drunk. Things started to improve on the third day, my dizziness and disorientation had largely subsided, leaving me with the severe diarrhea. I was by myself and had no idea what to do. I knew that I was really sick but didn't know where to find a trustworthy doctor nearby, and I just wanted somebody to help me. I ended up getting in contact with some of the Sotla interns since the interns I was living with were traveling. I arranged to take the bus back and meet one of them in Hoshiarpur and then stay with a local volunteer. The next day was brutal. I didn't eat or drink anything in the hopes I wouldn't shit my pants on the bus. There were no bathrooms on the bus, and in the 12 hours I spent on the bus, there were maybe only 4 bathroom ...
