FREDERICKSBURG — Thousands gathered under the sun in downtown Fredericksburg to celebrate the 32nd annual Heritage Day Festival on Friday. A friend posted the following, and I replied to it. Have you ever asked a native American what they think of Independence Day? What was this land before it was invaded along with millions of Native Americans being slaughtered and persecuted for their beliefs. Killed for what they believed in. What part of the world hasn’t been [...] ... Source: bencollins.org --- 11 days ago
Ok, I don’t want to do a list of 53 not so funny things that make yesterday my favorite holiday, but the number refers to one reason this years July 4th was awesome. It’s a product line called Nutrition53, created by Bill Romanowski, that I’ve been sampling the last few weeks. Thursday night I talked to [...] ... Source: www.mattdenn.com --- 12 days ago
I have never figured out the politician-marching-in-parade thing. Don’t get me wrong, I do it. My great volunteers and I marched in four parades over the weekend and would have marched in more if we could have gotten to them. But my gut sense is that parents are not nudging their kids awake in the [...] ... Source: www.twodolla.org --- 12 days ago
This is the first 4th of July weekend I’ve remained in the Twin Cities since moving here. I’m usually in Milwaukee whooping it up at Summerfest. I was just talking to The General™, explaining how the first time we went to Summerfest must have been 2002. If my external hard drive was up and running, [...] ... As I said the podcast for this week that I would be getting to a new round of links and happenings in the Collected Edition universe. On July 4, 1998, I returned to The United States, flying in from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. I always thought it fortuitous that I returned on what is probably one of the most significat days of the American calendar. I was very happy to return to America. America, despite the fact I had been living [...] ... Source: www.secondversion.com --- 11 days ago

No, no, no! I’m not going to share any tails of drunken debauchery over the long 4th of July weekend. Although I did discover that July 4th seems to be the favorite holiday of North Floridians. I have never seen such a spectacle of fireworks in my life. And they were in no way limited just to downtown. Every cul-de-sac in my suburban community seemed to be trying to outdo the next with their displays. My tots have never had so much fun. And their mom kept saying to them “Let’s go find some more fireworks to watch” long after they were ready read more ... Source: responsiblemarketing.com --- 12 days ago
Independence Day Sale advertising is seldom message responsible. The print ads are crowded and filled with visual cliches. And the television ads can be downright obnoxious. Today isn’t just July 4th; it is Independence Day. It celebrates the rhetorical shot heard ’round the world: the Declaration of Independence. The most powerful statement for individual liberties and against arbitrary government power in the history of the world. And it matters still today, 232 years later. Because those words led to a nation in [...] ... Source: mudranch.wordpress.com --- 11 days ago
What kind of small town would we be if we didn’t have a Independence Day parade? None at all, that’s what.
