Immigration has been absent from the presidential campaign for months, but it came to the front again this week in a controversial television spot for Barack Obama. The Democratic presidential candidate sought to cast Republican rival John McCain as an anti-Hispanic hard-liner and link him to talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. The Spanish language TV ad — dubbed [...] ...

John and Sarah are making the rounds.Good for them! However a minor irritation still exists. That is, because out of fear of Obama, probably the great majority of FR (including founder) now support this team--and yet we still cannot get clear discussions on Borders/Immigration/Amnesty out of Team McCain/Palin) though we know exactly what "Yes We Can" Obama/Biden will do). After thinking about what will and will not work, I have two plans for those who are very worried about our country over Illegal Immigration (some 90% here on FR and 80% of our countrymen) yet want to convey this to the... ...

The U.S. Department of Justice has failed to implement most of 22 reforms of the Immigration judge system promised two years ago, including establishment of a discipline system, more oversight of judges and improving the appeals process, according to a study released on Monday. Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced the 22-point plan in August 2006, in the wake of mounting complaints by federal appellate judges about the lack of quality in Immigration judging and media accounts of abusive judges who faced little or no discipline. ...

When the Census Bureau released its new population projections last month, most of the media focused on the country's changing racial composition. But this was almost certainly not the most important finding. The projections show that the U.S. population will grow by 135 million in just 42 years — a 44 percent increase. Such growth would have profound implications for our environment and quality of life. Most of the increase would be a direct result of one federal policy — Immigration. If we reduced the level of Immigration, the projections would be much lower. The question we have to ask ourselves is: Do we want to be a much more densely settled country? ...

Re: “McCain, Obama need to speak up on Immigration,” Sept. 4 editorial. With the exception of a few anti-immigrant politicians like Tom Tancredo, very few candidates want to talk about Immigration because of the fear of being labeled “weak” on border security or, heaven forbid, “pro-amnesty.” However, we can’t afford to wait any longer. Our economy depends on immigrant labor. Without these workers, our cost of living will increase dramatically and the economy will suffer. If U.S. companies can’t employ needed workers, they will simply leave the U.S. or shut down. The situation is particularly dire for Colorado, as several critical industries — including the resort industry, agricultural industry, and oil and gas industry — rely on foreign workers. At best, our Immigration laws are outdated, overly complicated and ineffective. At worst, they’re a complete joke. The current laws are also a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. Instead of pouring money down the drain, we need to create a simple, fair and effective Immigration system which corresponds to our economic needs. Congress must have the courage to fix our Immigration system. The obvious starting point is legalizing the workers already here, who have become a valuable part of their companies and our communities. Joy F. Athanasiou, Denver ...

The McCain Campaign’s moronic Affirmative Actioning in selecting Alaska’s first-term Governor Sarah Palin for their VP candidate is of course foolish.
