While by no means conclusive evidence of GPS capabilities in the IPhone camera software, the latest builds of the SDK are littered with GPS references. Whether these are just templates (you can see other camera manufactures included as well) or needed by the 3G IPhone camera software is unknown. GPS camera software is used to put location (landmark) metadata into the photo files. Applications like Flickr, and Google earth use this data to arrange photographs (and videos) spatially based on this information. Another week, another beta version of the IPhone SDK. We know—you can hardly contain your excitement. We were all aflutter over here, so we eagerly tore open the release notes to find out what we can expect in this latest and greatest iteration.
The fifth beta fixes bugs and adds support for the latest IPhone OS.
Woo. Oo. Well, that’s fair, I guess. They can’t all be blockbusters. But we demand beta 6 bring us support for the rainbow-powered and unicorn-sparkle-dust features that we know are buried deep inside the IPhone’s OS. We will accept no substitutes!

This is Apple's fifth beta release since the IPhone SDK was released in March. There's just under a week left until the end of the Apple Design Awards submission period. No word if IPhone developers who submitted under earlier firmware will be able to re-submit outside the 72 hour period that Apple allots for "re-dos". Readers report that this is a smaller download (just over 1 GB) and details are trickling in through the comments. Thank you everyone who sent this in!
