Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Gaming , Software , IPhone I thought Line Rider kind of "jumped" the shark (so to speak) when they sold out to McDonald's , but apparently the little sandbox physics game is still kicking around. InXile , the company that makes it, is working on a version for the IPhone. There was a version available for jailbreakers, but apparently the company put the kibosh on it when they found out. Not much else to say about this -- Line Rider is currently available for free online , and if you like it there, you'll probably like it on the IPhone, too. Personally, it's more fun to watch than to play -- whenever I try to make a run, my little guy always dies on the first curve. Apple's ( NSDQ: AAPL ) Steve Jobs took the stage in San Francisco this morning with a blaring quote overhead that read: "reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." Then he broke into the task at hand. In addition to bringing NBC content back to the iTunes store, Apple is also adding high-definition TV shows for $2.99 each, including shows from NBC. -- iTunes 8: A new version was released today that includes new browsing capabilities and a Genius recommendation feature that automatically creates playlists from songs in the iTunes library. Jobs: "It helps you rediscover music in your music library." The Genius algorithms, which were developed internally, will pull up results instantly after users opt in to share their library's information with Apple. Once users opt in, iTunes will upload information about users' libraries anonymously and combine the knowledge from other iTunes users that do the same. Genius playlists range from 25, 50, 75 or 100 tracks and includes a Genius Sidebar that pulls up recommended tracks from the iTunes store. I'm a huge fan of Line Rider, that's probably pretty obvious by now, and you regular readers probably know that I'm also a reluctant fan of the IPhone. So I was pretty psyched this morning when I saw that the inXile folks will br bringing their version of Line Rider to both the IPhone and iTouch for an absurdly low $3. The i version of Line Rider will include the ability to upload and download tracks on the web via the official Line Rider site and will make use of the touch interface for track creation and play. You can also watch your tracks play out in a movie mode. These new versions of the game are set to hit the App Store and iTunes later this month along with the DS, PC and Wii versions of the game. Line Rider , the popular drawing game, is now available for the IPhone and iPod Touch for $2.99 in the iTunes App Store. The game allows you to draw a landscape with a simple pencil tool, creating ramps, hills and jumps. Then you test out your landscape by sending a boy on a sled down the hill, until he wipes out. The web version of Line Rider has attracted million of players and created a cult following since its debut in September 2006.
