There are two important things in this article: one of them is that the IPhone Firmware 2.0 is already live - at least a day earlier than its July 11 release date - and the other is that it's already jailbroken, thanks to the IPhone-dev team. Good news? Yes, very much so, but hold yourself back from updating if you want to keep your third party applications working. Why hold back when it's already jailbroken? There are a lot of reasons, and among them is that the jailbroken Firmware 2.0 is not widely tested yet. It's better to wait first and see if there will be some problems that may arise upon attempting to jailbreak the Firmware. Another thing is that you should NOT upgrade if your phone is fake activated or unlocked; doing so will lock your handset. But what if your IPhone is already upgraded to 2.0 and you managed to jailbreak it? That's well and good, except for one thing: many jailbreak applications will have to be rewritten in order to be work with the new Firmware. What does this all tell us, then? For now, it's best if you keep your 1.1.4 Firmware until the third-party developers are able to confirm that Firmware 2.0 runs smoothly when jailbroken, and when most of your favorite applications are already running on a jailbroken 2.0 IPhone. Others might be standing in a line snaking hundreds of bodies long into your friendly local Apple Store, reading this post from the comfort of your Motorola RAZR V3 and realizing that these are some of the last moments you'll be using a physical keypad. Still others are bemused by the fuss -- but whatever your stance on the phone, it's pretty hard to ignore the buzz that's floating around in the aftermath of day zero. Here are some of the goings-on we're tracking: The masses of humanity continue to collect . Massive stock shortages don't seem to be an issue (yet), but patience is not a virtue we hold dear to our hearts, so we really can't blame these people. Some buyers are reporting a yellow tint to their screens -- probably not enough to notice without another unit side-by-side for comparison, but real nonetheless. Of course, the first IPhone suffered from the occasional crappy backlight, bum touchscreen , or negative black, so we wouldn't be surprised if a few lame displays made it out of the factory floor for this model as well; we're following up with Apple on this and we should have more for you later today. Apple has finally rolled out official Firmware updates for both the IPhone and iPod Touch. Users can now update both gadgets to Firmware 2.. The IPhone Firmware 2.0 can be downloaded through iTunes 7.7. Mac Rumors notes that this release carries the same build number as the earlier leaked Firmware 2.0 which has already been subsequently jailbroken. A word of warning, though: Mac Rumors cautions users to avoid upgrading until Apple resolves all issues concerning server activation. Says Mac Rumors, "If you do upgrade and are unable to connect to the iTunes servers, your IPhone will be left in an unusable state". The Firmware update for the iPod Touch, meanwhile, is also available on iTunes for US 9.95. This update includes App Store support as well as various enhancements for Mail, Contact and Calendars.
