Back in April, The INCREDIBLE HULK director Louis Leterrier revealed that a Captain America cameo was cut from the final theatrical version of the film (see Captain America Cameo Cut From ‘INCREDIBLE HULK’ ), but that it would be included in the DVD release. While my response to Leterrier's HULK reboot was lukewarm, hearing about this cut scene -- which had Dr. Bruce Banner meeting up with Captain American in the Arctic -- made me really excited for the DVD release. My copy of the 3-disc DVD arrived last night and the scene in question can be found in the "Alternate Opening" feature on Disc 2. After watching it, I assumed that the Cap cameo didn't make it into the DVD either. As it turns out, this scene isn't some great meet up between Banner and Cap, but rather a "blink and you'll miss it" situation [...] ...

Earlier this year, Louis Leterrier said he saw The INCREDIBLE HULK as a villain in The Avengers. And now the writers of Iron Man have pitched in and agreed. I'm all for it. It seems that the folks over at FilmSchoolRejects, after getting hold of the upcoming INCREDIBLE HULK DVD, were able to spot what would have to be the mother of all easter eggs. In what is described as a "nanosecond glimpse" in an alternate beginning for the film, Bruce Banner is wandering around the Antarctic "emo-style," (I suppose sad hitchhiking scenes don't work there) when the blurry visage of Captain America's shield can be seen buried beneath a thin layer of ice, topping a dark outline of his body. After all the pre-release back and forth over whether Captain America would make some kind of appearance in this summer's The INCREDIBLE HULK , it turns out that he was there all along... In the original, previously-unseen version of the opening scenes. With the imminent DVD release of the movie, fans can see what they missed the first time around... namely, one very cold man with a shield. In the 145-second alternate opening for the movie found on the special edition DVD, Bruce Banner ends up hulking out in the Antarctic and causing an avalanche... that knocks free a particularly familiar hunk of ice: (In case you don't see it, look for the shield in the left of that pic, towards the center of the height. How this jibes with the shield appearing on Tony Stark's worktable in the earlier Iron Man , I'm not entirely sure - unless it's as simple as it being another shield - which may have been one of the reasons why the scene was cut. Alternatively, it may just be that wiser heads prevailed and decided that they didn't want to see such an important scene for Captain America appear anywhere other than his own movie, due in 2011.
