I'm not going to ask the "Is it the right time to buy?" question. I know they just released new units, and I don't need the absolute bleeding edge. Has anyone seen/heard/read any reviews as of the LCD in these units? Are they still the same panel (20") that had the issues which they were getting sued over? I'll be getting a 20". I want the 24", But don't want to pony up the $$ right now for it. For the price difference of $300 between the 2.4 and 2.66, is it worth it? I'm thinking it is. Extra gig of RAM, better video card, and larger HD. HD does not matter that much to me. I'll most likely upgrade to 4GB RAM. How much (if any) of a difference will the video card make to me? Lastly - any reason not to get the IMac? I was planning on getting a mini when the new revisions come out and a nice LCD, but i'm getting lazy and impatient. ...

Mac OS X 10.5 (retail) and 10.4 (original install discs) IMac comes with all original packaging, keyboard and mouse in mint condition, and tiger install discs. Leopard will be included in a boxed retail package (I purchased leopard shortly after its release). Recently tried to up-date RAM (from 1G to 2 G) in my new IMac. Installed the chip, and when turned the computer back on it wasn't performing correctly. Seemed like the keyboard and video buffers were way off - I was typing and the typing appearing very slow on the screen - or when dragging a window around the screen - was very 'choppy'. A day past, then when I turned on the computer, I got the grey screen and 3 beeps - warning of bad RAM. Took the RAM out and the system seems to be running only 75% better. Typing still slow and video choppy. What gives?? Here are the specs: IMac 20" 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo ATI radeon HD2600 256MB wired keyboard / mouse extra RAM chip: KByte - 1GB DDR2 SODIMM 5300 PC-667 200 pin Any input would be appreciated, or showing me anyway of running a diagnostic to make sure system still .....ok Thanks ...

My Mum's new 20" IMac (running 10.5.2) refused to startup the other day. She reports it would show the grey apple then turn off. I guided (over the phone) her through booting from the Install DVD #1 and running Disk Utility. 'Repair Disk' was greyed out... uh oh. Ok, I got her to try verifying the disk. Disk Utility was unable to do so and gave an error. Ok. That's NOT good. Plus I've not seen a recent Mac turn itself off like that before. I get her to boot into Hardware Test. She runs an extended test. No problems found. Well - that at least is good news, if not to be relied on 100%. Next step - she calls AppleCare and they suggest she try wiping the HD and reinstalling the OS. Fine - she has been running Time Machine with her new 1TB Time Capsule (which I setup and tested restoring files to be sure it was all running ok) so she should just be able to restore everything from there (leaving aside for the moment worries as to why Leopard failed so catastrophically). But the techs fail to sucessfully guide her through restoring. All she can tell me is there was a problem connecting to the TC (but she's very non-technical so it's hard to know WHAT that problem was) This is no damn good I tell her yesterday over the phone (*wishes I could somehow get there in person*). You need your Admin and Standard user account back. I then call Apple and explain exactly what the situation is. I have the tech make notes of what she needs to be gu ...

I have done the upgrade to the beta on a MacBook pro and new IMac, so far with good results.
