I'm always up for a good foreign Horror movie. Dare I say that these days crossing either pond is almost the only way to find humble gems of the genre. Earlier this year the Weinsteins acquired North American rights to a UK-thriller, Eden Lake, for which Rotten Tomatoes brings us an exclusive first look at the film's UK poster. While importing a scare definitely piques my interest, Eden Lake's poster looks awfully familiar, but I still have hope considering the writer-director's comments to Fangoria back in May. "We show people's heads on fire, neck-stabbing with glass, stomach-slashing revealing intestines and kidneys and metal spikes through feet. Gritty realism in moments of ramped-up tension." Interested? "When nursery teacher Jenny (Kelly Reilly) escapes to the country for a relaxing weekend away with her boyfriend, she is unaware of a romantic surprise he has in store. The location is perfect. A lake enclosed by ... ...

Of all the things in this wide world you could be doing, there's no obvious case for suggesting that one of them should be watching this non-engaging tale of a girl, her increasingly possessive boyfriend and the local cult of witches who look after a Big Pit O' Evil in the basement of said boy and girl's block of flats. It's put together well enough, with some decent acting on display and some early doors credence at heading towards a competent psychodrama before taking a sharp left down Supernatural Horror Bullshit Boulevard. It's really more dull that offensively bad, although that's arguably worse. Rather avoidable stuff. (Full review at theOneliner.com) ...

The town council is debating how to spend the $38,700 it received for allowing Wes Craven to film a movie in the old high school building. Craven, director of 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Scream,' filmed a portion of his upcoming Horror film, '25/8,' in the vacant former Tolland High School building. The film is set in a quiet community where a killer has sworn to murder the seven children born on the night of his death. Filming finished in May. Council members at their meeting Tuesday discussed a proposal to spend the Craven money on science and social studies textbooks for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. Superintendent of Schools William D. Guzman said teachers now share textbooks. ...
