Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News Scranton native Sen. Joe Biden would likely feel at home any day of the week in Northeast Pennsylvania. Well, any day except possibly Sunday. The Most Rev. Joseph F. Martino, bishop of Scranton, has strongly supported refusal of Holy Communion for politicians who campaign for or vote in favor of abortion rights. When asked whether the Democratic vice presidential candidate would be refused Communion should he tour the region, the diocese held firm to its past statements. "I will not tolerate any politician who claims to be a faithful Catholic who is not genuinely pro-life," Bishop Martino said in a pastoral letter Sept. 15, 2005, and reiterated this week. "No Catholic politician who supports the culture of death should approach Holy Communion," Bishop Martino said. "I will be truly vigilant on this point." Bishop Martino has also pointed to the need to privately meet with Catholic politicians and instruct them on the church's teachings, prior to refusing them Communion. While willing to reiterate these points, the bishop declined to comment specifically on Mr. Biden or any other politician. Speculation on whether priests would welcome Mr. Biden to take Communion while he is touring the nation over the next nine Sundays is likely to fuel another "wafer watch," which is how a similar conflict was dubbed by the news media in 2004. At that time, then-Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry ... Source: www.theconservativevoice.com --- 33 days ago
It does not appear that Ms. Quinn treated the Russert funeral Mass as a photo op, but it does appear that she should have known that her reception of Communion at the Mass would be illicit and she should have refrained from receiving. Then she would not have embarrassed herself by her tasteless story about receiving and her subsequent silly self-justification trying to make a virtue of her disregard of the guidelines for the reception of Holy Communion by doing as she pleased. ... Tonight the Lord showed me His glory, his splendor. His big heart. His forgiveness. I’ve been battling this with myself for a long time…from the time the Lord told me to take the Holy Communion on a daily basis to now, finally taking it on a daily basis. From ignorance to full obedience. And it just [...] ... Source: morganwrites.wordpress.com --- 26 days ago

Warning: Graphic picture of truth below. Some questions to my priest before I make my confession: “Say I raised money so that a friend could procure the abortion of her child, is that manifest grave sin, and do I need to confess it before receiving Holy Communion?” My Priest: “Ah…Yes and yes… But, don’t confess now; return when your [...] ... “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.’” Jesus’ words amplify how important it is Christians take Holy Communion as often as possible—and why this is central to Christian worship. It conveys [...] ... Source: bpwnlw.wordpress.com --- 23 days ago
As Jonathan pointed out last Sunday in his sermon which introduced us to our series, ‘You are my friends if you do what I command you,’ there is something unsettling in these words. From Athanasius Contra Mundum: Part of the reason people accuse us of using Communion as a political tool is that all of Mass and worship has been reduced to Communion, rather than worship of almighty God. In other words, it focuses on what we get, and not what we ought to give, and consequently the bar [...] ... Source: www.catholicblogs.com --- 41 days ago

. Christ as a Passover (1Cor 5:7-13) is quite a bit different than the Passover of Exodus 12:1-27. However, there is one outstanding similarity and that's the safety it provides for its beneficiaries. The first Passover's blood was a 100% guaranteed fail-safe, God proof, commandment proof, sin proof safety net for the firstborn males of men and beasts. The second Passover's blood is a 100% guaranteed safety net too. And when the Death angel came through Egypt, it looked for only one thing: the Passover's blood. It didn't look for faith, charity, religious affiliation, church attendance, worship, reverence, love, law abidance, good Samaritanism, altruism, prayer, rosaries, sacraments, candles, confession, Communion, Holy water, baptism, the golden rule, nor anything else of pious significance. It only looked for the blood; and that is all that the wrath of God looks for now. 1Pet 1:18-19 . .For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were ransomed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. Since Catholicism's Communion elements eventually get digested, then even if they did contain eternal life, then diners would lose it the instant they eliminated the digested elements into the toilet. So then, in order to obtain eternal life; it's necessary to get it from a source other than digestible elements so ... Source: messages.yahoo.com --- 11 days ago
. According to Jesus, it's God's kind of life that is supposed to be in the elements so I'm pretty sure you can see right off that if that were actually the case, it wouldn't be necessary to keep coming back to the altar time and time again to replenish it because eternal life is like an artesian well that replenishes itself rather than being drawn from a cistern. John 4:13-14 . .Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water gushing up to eternal life. Even if the hocus pocus of transubstantiation were true (I honestly would not have a problem with that even though cannibalism is offensive to me) the fact would remain that the kinds of life-- according to John 6:50-51, John 6:54, John 6:58 --that are supposed to be had in the elements are immortality and eternal life; which are indestructible, impervious kinds of life that eaters of Jesus' flesh and blood need to obtain just once since those kinds of life can neither die nor peter out. Since that's the case with those two kinds of life, then if the elements actually contained them, I would have obtained immortality and eternal life at my First Holy Communion way back in 1951. FAQ: Then what are the meanings of Rom 6:22 and Rom 8:13? It would help askers of that question to finish reading all of Rom 6:22 rather than just half of it. Rom 6:23 . .For the wage ...
