You may have spent last Friday evening focused on the presidential debate; Gannett TV stations and newspapers launched a large and growing High School Sports video network. The project is called "the Grid." Visitors can click on a range of High School football games streaming live nationwide. Gannett has pulled together the feeds on Mogulus. About a dozen games will be featured tonight in the Grid, which can be embedded in any Web site. I interviewed Gannett Broadcasting's VP for new media, Kerry Oslund, via e-mail about the project. He responded while last Friday's games were going on. What is the vision? How big is the project? Oslund: Friday night's project is a proof of concept. More than a dozen live High School games across multiple time zones, all produced with inexpensive gear: laptop, aircard connectivity and Mogulus (of which Gannett owns a minority position). Newspapers are participating. Broadcast is participating. USA Today is participating. Highschoolsports.net is participating.   A High School audiovisual department is participating. (It might have the most sophisticated production.) Six games are highlighted in the Grid at any one time.
