It's about time we got another chance to fight back against all those Hero-types, raiding dungeons for loot. As one of three evil champions (a Ranger, a Knight or a Mage), your task in Dungeon Defender is to battle the forces of good in dungeons deep underground as they charge at your throne in an effort to steal your jewels. To progress, you'll have to fend off 16 waves of them, on a total of nine levels, ultimately taking the fight to the humans and sacking their city. While you can wander around your dungeons smiting good guys yourself, you'll have much better luck if you build a few monster lairs and plant some traps. Doing so however, costs gold: Accumulate funds by destroying Heroes or sending your lowly peons to dig through walls and mine valuable ores. You'll also encounter neutral creatures that guard treasure, so be sure to destroy them, too -- equipment you find will come in handy for keeping your Dark Lord alive. Complete levels, and you'll also be awarded points to improve your monsters, your traps or yourself, making you a far more efficient killing machine. The graphics aren't exactly cutting edge, but it's fun, and most importantly, it's the closest we've come to seeing a new Dungeon Keeper Game in a long time. So let's go ahead and encourage indie developers to do more with that whole "Evil Overlord" angle. One thousand. That's how many bug fixes are in Vanguard's sixth Game update, which has now gone live. In addition to the fixes, there's a new newbie area for levels one through ten called the Isle of Dawn. Word is that it will eventually serve as a free trial setting. For now, though, it's just an easy place to get a new character started. SOE also redid character models, offering new customization options and making some changes that lower the models' system performance hit. The most controversial changes are a whole slew of class damage adjustments. SOE looked at every single class in the Game and adjusted its damage output to ensure "that each lands in their correct place in the spectrum of classes." The details of all those changes are buried in the patch notes. ...

Just what the title of the thread says. I'm curious what the collective creativity of RPG.net can come up with for powers appropriate to a Game set in some semblance of the Heroes universe. (I'm thinking of running a Game and find myself stuck in a rut.) To get things started, here's one of my... ...

Screen: Genius Guitar Hero and Rock Band have started a new trend – music games are now more popular than ever. It won’t come as a big surprise then that a version is going to be released for hip hop fans who maybe aren’t so keen on guitars and rock music. At first glance, it looks like Scratch: The Ultimate DJ has all the ingredients for success – the turntables are made by Numark, the know-how is provided by the music producer Quincy Jones III, and the music comes from the original artists themselves. ...

Recently, I got into a conversation with a very academically oriented friend about the value of sports in our society. He was carrying on about how overpaid athletes are the bane of moral values and that they are there to distract the population from the “real issues,” like the Roman gladiators of yesterday. Personally, I [...] ...

Filed under: PlayStation Store , News Some of you might not know who Suda "Suda51" Goichi is, but perhaps you've heard of his Game, one of the most talked-about titles on the Wii, No More Heroes . Another American release he was involved in was the PS2 title killer7 , which featured a unique twist on the FPS genre. If you are a fan of these niche titles, you are in luck. Developer Grasshopper Manufacture's (where Goichi is CEO) very first title, released in Japan for the original PlayStation back in 1999, titled The Silver Case , will be headed over to the Japanese PS Store. The Game yet another one-of-kind adventure title that featured usually deep characterization and unconventional plot, containing a story about murders that seem be committed by a dead man. No word on whether The Silver Case will get a stateside release; though a remake and a spinoff of the original is currently being ported and localized for the DS. That gives us a glimmer of hope of an English version, but don't count on it. Of course, we'll keep you updated if any of that changes.   Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...

News broke last summer that Ubisoft was developing a third-person superhero action Game based on Heroes that would bring the series characters, locations and story lines to next-generation Game consoles and the PC. ['Game Mag Weaseling' is a weekly column by Kevin Gifford which documents the history of video Game magazines, from their birth in the early '80s to the current day.] Instead of the traditional round-up or magazine focus for Game Mag Weaseling, there is just one page I'd like to share with you: the review of Genesis classic Gunstar Heroes , printed in the very first issue of UK magazine Edge, way back in October 1993. Modern Edge is written a lot better, I promise! [Kevin Gifford breeds ferrets and runs Magweasel , a site for collectors and fans of old video-Game and computer magazines. In his spare time he does writing and translation for lots and lots of publishers and Game companies.] ...

Entertainment industry strikes have an interesting way of shaking up the following season. This one is no exception. Heroes is steadily dropping with each episode: down 18% from the already-sluggish season premiere. However, according to EOnline, it’s doing really well on Hulu. (Have you people learned nothing from Stargate? TV execs and advertisers don’t understand this [...] ...
