It's a weeknight, I've had dinner, and I'm near my favorite soap box. I'm mad at Chicago Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry. Let's talk about why I'm mad this evening. Hendry has been searching for the better part of this decade for two things: an every day center fielder and a left-handed hitting outfielder with pop. Early in the telecast of the Cubs game in Atlanta this evening, news broke that the Braves had traded a trio of minor leaguers to the Pittsburgh Pirates for All-Star centerfielder Nate McLouth. Charlie Morton, Gorkys Hernandez and a third minor leaguer got the deal done for Atlanta. McLouth hit 26 home runs, stole 23 bases and drove in 94 runs last year. He hits left-handed. Have I mentioned that he signed a three-year deal for under $16 million this winter? So it appears the Pirates were willing to deal their best player for a good pitching prospect, a decent outfield prospect and a throw-in. Hernandez is certainly not the top outfield prospect in Atlanta—Jordan Schaefer and Gregor Blanco would likely rank ahead of him. And Morton's a good prospect but hasn't seen much success in the majors yet. Meanwhile, the Cubs are paying Milton Bradley more the next two seasons than McLouth will make in the next three, and his career highs in home runs and RBIs aren't what McLouth did last year. Have I mentioned that McLouth doesn't have a history full of injuries, ejections nor suspensions? I understand that Hendry no longer has ... Source: randomroger.blogspot.com --- 3 days ago

The Cubs disaster / train wreck / collapse / or whatever you want to call it of a season, has just gone from bad to worse, with our beloved Mark DeRosa being traded to St. Louis for basically blades of infield grass. (A mid level youngster Chris Perez ). 1. This is a slap to Cub Nation's face by Jim Hendry, who obviously is not working the phones hard enough if Mark DeRosa was available for next to nothing. You would think Jim would see enough is enough and make some sort of move, but he's not, and that is why I am calling for his resignation. 2. Jim you made mistakes this offseason that are not even coming close to being forgivable. With Friday's Milton Bradley incident, or Aaron Miles just sitting on the bench everyday when he just he DFA'd and a quality player by the name of Bobby Scales can come back up. The Marquis trade was worked well too Jim. I'm upset you don't have the stones to do anything to Bradley, and I guess we will just have to wait and let him run his course all over our clubhouse until someone fights him. 3. DeRosa in a Redbirds uniform? It's like Jeter in a Boston cap. I never thought I would see the day, this brings sheer anger. 4. We basically swopped DeRosa for Miles with the Cards. Enough is enough, we need Uggla, Robert's, etc. A dam Second baseman Jim. No more wait for Aram. The team we have now will not beat the Cardinals with Derosa. Plain and simple. 5. INEXCUSABLE JIM! MAKE A MOVE OR RESIGN! ... Source: www.bleedcubbieblue.com --- 6 days ago
Ok............Mark Derosa is a Cardinal. Not exactly where we wanted him to go but so be it. He's a nice addition for them but NOT a huge difference maker. This team is 3.5 games out with alot of season left and we have Soriano and Bradley performing at career worst levels. Obviously that has to change and the law of averages says it likely will. Aram's return is close..............so I don't think a bat is the most pressing need as long as he and Sori and Gameboard perform anywhere near career average 14........count em.......14 last at bat losses in less than half a season is ridiculous! Jimbo's only hope is to go get a couple of guys to help the bullpen. Even if our hitters were hitting like they should and we were in 1st........we would be in for another playoff meltdown with this mess of a pen. Who's out there and available? IMO.....we need a loogy and a decent setup guy. Time for Jim Hendry to atone for his blunders! ...

Two Arrests In Port LaBelle Drug Grow Operations In Hendry County LABELLE, FL. -- On Thursday June 11, 2009 Hendry County law enforcement personnel participated in a coordinated statewide law enforcement effort, Operation Eagle Claw, aimed at dismantling suspected hydroponic marijuana grow laboratories throughout the State of Florida. The Hendry County Sheriff's Office served three separate search warrants, confiscating approximately 320 pounds of marijuana, 178 plants, two firearms, and two arrests with additional arrests anticipated. The street value of the confiscated marijuana is estimated at approximately $1,344,000. All three locations were completely dismantled by law enforcement personnel. Hendry County deputies searched the residence of 6049 Acorn Circle, in Port LaBelle and confiscated 65 marijuana plants from the indoor marijuana grow house. The new house is owned by CHL Home Builders, Inc. of LaBelle, according to property records. Neighborhood observers says there are several suspicious new homes in the area in addition to this one. A home at 5005 Pike Lane in Port LaBelle, off Eucalyptus Circle, was searched and 58 plants were confiscated, netting 172.8 pounds of marijuana. The home is owned by CHL Home Builders Inc. also, according to property records. Deputies arrested 59 year old Roberto Sierra, and 45 year old Rosa Suarez Vazquez. Is Jim Hendry the best qualified person to be GM of the Chicago Cubs ? Personally, I have been a fan of Jim Hendry’s. I think he has made some of the best trades in Chicago Cubs history. However, there comes a point when all things must past and I am wondering if the Cubs might benefit from some front office changes. I honestly do not have a set opinion on this matter, but, I am very upset by the ’09 Chicago Cubs. It’s starting to feel like the last year or two of Dusty Baker’s reign. As a fan, it feels like the Cubs are a chicken with its head cut off. They seem lost… whether it’s the players fault, the manager’s fault, the GM’s fault, or all of their faults… it doesn’t matter. I want the Chicago Cubs to win this season, and it’s not too late. But some changes need to be made because this team will not win it. Will Hendry make any changes? Are the Cubs going to just shrug their shoulders and go home with their tail between their legs? What does Hendry need to do to turn this team around? Poll Should Jim Hendry remain GM into the next season if the Chicago Cubs fail to make the playoffs? Yes! No... Time for a change. Yes... but he only gets ONE more chance. 28 votes | Results ... I still do not know what the hold up is for the Cubs to look into acquiring Brian Roberts . I think this season they need him more than ever. Roberts could play second base for the Cubs and the Cubs could move Aaron Miles to the bench where he belongs. He could also provide the Cubs a contact hitter that could steal bases at the top of their order to move Soriano down in the lineup where he belongs. This season Roberts is hitting .287 with 47 RBIs with 14 stolen bases . The Orioles are 12 games out and should be dumping off players soon. I hope Hendry looks at trying to finally get this deal to work. I mean even if the Cubs have to trade off 1 or 2 of their good pitching prospects..Ex Sean Marshall , Smargjia, or even Randy Wells , the Cubs window to win a world series is slowly closing and they need to make a deal to get some offense soon or it will be too late. Let me know what you think of Brian Roberts to the Cubs would be an ideal move for Hendry to make ... Source: www.bleedcubbieblue.com --- 16 days ago
1.Trading Away Mark DeRosa-sure we got some worthy prospects for D-Ro but Mike Fontenot isnt quite ready to be an everyday second baseman, or third baseman. That brings me to my second point: if we would've not traded D-Ro we'd hav a legit third baseman to fill in for Ramirez. And the "salary eat up" that Hendry was doin was supposed to be for Peavy but he's on the DL right now so i dont really care about that, as of the moment. 2.Trading Away Matt murton-if he'd just play he could be a 20-30 homer guy and hit about .280 but no, Hendry goes out and gets Cliff Floyd and Soriano. Im not sayin that soriano sucks but if we wouldnt've got him we could hav Murton hitting homers and hittin in the 6 hole and havin The Riot in the #1 hole and not in the 8 hole. 3.Trading Away (see where im gettin) Rocky Roquet -he didnt just have a cool name but he had a low 90s fastball and had the potential to close or set up Marmol in the future 4.Getting Kevin Gregg-When Hendry said that Woody deserved a multi-year deal, did he have the 2 years in cleveland in mind? I know thats more that 1 year but still. Wood was just gettin back into the grooves of things when Hendry just let him go. Then he trades prospect Jose Ceda for injury-prone Gregg. He's blown 2 randy wells victories. How can the kid be 0-3 with a 2.55 ERA? Well whatever, I got off topic there. 5.Trading Away Michael Wuertz -if you wern't gunna keep woody then why didnt you hav wuertz, Marm ... Source: www.bleedcubbieblue.com --- 20 days ago
Okay, as much as some people are going to disagree with me, I believe that, barring a miraculous turnaround destined for the baseball history books, this team is headed for one of the most disappointing seasons in its history. So now, as Jim Hendry's career as a baseball GM is hanging by a thread, I thought it would be interesting to speculate on how he'll be thought about when we look back on his tenure. As for me, I tend to believe that the worst thing that ever happened to Hendry was when MacPhail was let go and he was given control of the checkbook. As much as I despised "Andy the clown", I wonder if his stubbornly conservative ways were good for Hendry in that it made him have to search for solutions that didn't involve spending like a drunken sailor. After all, Hendry was the guy who brought us players like Lee, Ramirez, Grudzielanek, Karros, etc., for next to nothing. And let's not forget Kenny Lofton , a virtual throw-in in the Ramirez deal who became the best lead-off man (and a key to the second half surge in '03) that we'd had in years. Hendry is the ninth Cubs ' GM of my life; looking back the only one that really stands out among that lot is Dallas Green and even he doesn't have three division titles to show for his tenure. So, I think when I look back, I'll pobably have a tendency to be kind to him and remember the positives more than the negatives. He did, after all, get us within five outs of the world se ... Jim Hendry has been permitted to explode the payroll up to $136 million, or third highest in baseball and first highest in the National League. What we have gotten for his wondrous spending spree is a .500 style ballclub that is playing more or less to that expectation level. But for the love of God nobody sit there and pour out the excuse that the dilemma right now is that Hendry's hands are tied. His hands weren't tied en route to spending $136 million !!! You say a GM's hands are tied if you live in Milwaukee, Cincinnati or a whole host of baseball cities where there are legitimate restrictive financial limitations. You DON'T pour out that sorry-ass excuse when explaining what has gone wrong with this ill-constructed roster. It's like a long-addicted crack addict saying that they need to be allowed a couple more crack hits and then they will have the addiction thing conquered. ...
