This was an amazing adventure. On our trip up from Fl, we stopped in Charlotte to see my long time high school buddy. He works for Hendrick. Unknown by Lil Buck (a HUGE Jr fan), we got set up to go behind the scenes and view the cars. We saw all 4 garages. We walked through the haulers, and even saw the cars getting loaded on to go to Indy. Jr's Daytona car was still in the same condition from the race. The front in had cracks in the sheet metal from bump drafting. He is a couple of photos, as we were only allowed two or three inside. ...

You'll remember Darian Grubb as the guy who replaced Chad Knaus during his suspension in 2006. Tony Stewart held his press conference announcing Grubb as his crew chief for the No. 14. They've agreed to a multi-year deal. Stewart probably isn't the easiest driver to deal with for a crew chief -- his temper is famous -- but when Grubb was asked if he was prepared to handle it, he shrugged it off, saying he didn't think Stewart would be much different from the laid back California guys he'd worked with in the past. Grubb comes to Stewart-Haas from Hendrick Motorsports where he's the engineering manager for the No. 5 and No. 88 cars. He said he'd had offers before, but wasn't tempted to leave until this opportunity. "I never wanted to step outside of the Hendrick Motorsports organization until this opportunity came up," Grubb said. "This opportunity is a great chance for me to step up and almost take off on my own." Stewart-Haas Racing does have a partnership with Hendrick Motorsports so it won't be totally foreign. Grubb came recommended by Stewart's crew chief for the last 10 years -- Greg Zipadelli. He says he plans on talking with Zippy about how to work with Stewart. "Any time you've got somebody who's had a 10-year relationship, you'd be foolish not to go talk to them," Grubb said. "It's going to be hard to build that kind of history up right off the bat." ... RICHMOND, Va. - He's the most accomplished driver in the NASCAR garage, and by a wide margin, but changes in the Sprint Cup Series have not been very kind to Jeff Gordon. The four-time champion hasn't won a title since NASCAR went to the 10-race playoff format, and he hasn't won a race since NASCAR's "car of tomorrow" became the car of today. Only now is he starting to feel like things are coming together, even if the component of good fortune so appeciated by drivers at this level still hasn't swung back around his way. "Ironic thing," Gordon said at Richmond International Raceway, where weather postponed the race to set the 12-driver field for the playoffs to Sunday. Gordon is 10th in the standings, 102 points ahead of 13th-place David Ragan, heading into the Chevrolet 400. "Last week Jimmie (Johnson) and his team went to Kentucky to test on Monday. Our team was scheduled to be there on Tuesday," Gordon said of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate. "Jimmie got a full day in, and it rained on Tuesday and we didn't get any testing in." ... RICHMOND, Va. - Stewart Hass Racing on Friday formally named Darian Grubb as the crew chief for driver Tony Stewart next season in the organization's No. 14 Chevrolets. Grubb has worked most recently as an engineering manager at Hendrick Motorsports and served as a substitute crew chief for driver Jimmie Johnson for four races in 2006 when Johnson's regular crew chief, Chad Knaus, was suspended. Johnson won two of the four races during Grubb's tenure. "This is something that is another key step in the equation of us getting on our feet next year," Stewart, who owns 50 percent of SHR, said at Richmond International Raceway. "We got a team leader now and someone I'm very comfortable with. I feel like Darian is going to be a very key part in getting SHR where we want to be." Grubb, a Virginia native, called the move a "huge moment." ... Source: www.kentucky.com --- 6 days ago
FONTANA, Calif. - Everything required for Jimmie Johnson to win his third consecutive Sprint Cup Series championship was on display in Sunday night's Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway. If he and his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team can come anywhere near replicating this performance on a consistent basis during the Chase, Johnson may be able to hoist his own "Mission Accomplished" banner in the season finale at Homestead, Fla. Johnson blistered the field, leading 228 of 250 laps on his way to this third victory of the season and 36th of his career. How strong was he? Twice in final 90 laps Johnson restarted following a caution in sixth place and in each instance retook the lead from Greg Biffle in less than three laps. "To win this Chase, you're going to have to fight for wins every week, and every pit stop is going to count, because you're going to have at least (Kyle Busch) and (Carl Edwards) to have to deal with. And I would expect a few others to have their stuff in order," Johnson said. ... Source: www.kentucky.com --- 53 minutes ago

Stewart-Haas Racing named Darian Grubb on Friday as the crew chief for driver Tony Stewart when Stewart moves over to the No.14 Chevrolet team in 2009. Team officials made the announcement at the Richmond International Raceway, where the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will run the "cut-off" race this weekend before the 10-race "Chase for the Sprint Cup" begins September 14 at New Hampshire. "This is a tremendous opportunity for me to not only work with a driver of Tonys caliber, but to help build an organization into one that can win races and eventually contend for championships," Grubb said. "I'm honored to join Tony and the Stewart-Haas organization. I'm really excited about taking this next step and I feel it's a challenge I'm ready for." Grubb most recently served as an engineering manager for Hendrick Motorsports. He also served as an interim crew chief for Jimmie Johnson's No.48 team during the first four races of the 2006 season when Johnson's regular crew chief, Chad Knaus, was suspended for a rules violation that occurred during post- qualifying inspection at Daytona. Grubb guided Johnson to a pair of victories, including the Daytona 500. Grubb spent the 2007 season as crew chief for Casey Mears, who captured his first Cup victory last year in the Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. The 32-year-old Floyd, VA native had been Hendrick since 1993. ...
