Think of it as a little good-bye gift to industry , since they haven't enjoyed enough benefits already. Business will look back at these years as the Golden Years when all their dreams came true. For everyone else, not so much. The text of the proposed rule has not been made public, but according to sources briefed on the change and to an early draft obtained by The Washington Post, it would call for reexamining the methods used to measure Risks posed by workplace exposure to toxins. The change would address long-standing complaints from businesses that the government overestimates the risk posed by job exposure to chemicals. The rule would also require the agency to take an extra step before setting new limits on chemicals in the workplace by allowing an additional round of challenges to agency risk assessments. The department's speed in trying to make the regulatory change contrasts with its reluctance to alter workplace safety rules over the past 7 1/2 years. In that time, the department adopted only one major Health rule for a chemical in the workplace, and it did so under a court order. ...

Tomatoes became the target of a nation-wide panic last month, when the FDA started checking off the states from which the vegetable/fruit should be avoided due to a salmonella outbreak that was posing serious Health Risks to the elderly, the young, and the infirm. But now the FDA says that jalapeno and serrano peppers may have been to blame all along. Meanwhile, WebMD warns that tomatoes may still pose a risk, and should be eaten with caution -- that is, avoid commercially grown tomatoes in favor of smaller, organic farm produce and heirloom tomatoes. The FDA has also added cilantro to the list of foods to be avoided until more information is in, suggesting to this writer that the government has no idea what caused the outbreak that sickened more than 900 people nation wide. Maybe someone just has something against pico de gallo . Whatever the case, I'm not about to stop eating Mexican food. Just eat wisely, and stay healthy. We've heard it all before... Health and safety gone mad ! Council bureaucrats stifle fun for little Johnny. And all that. It's a tedious debate for all concerned. Usually the argument against Health and safety is that common sense should prevail. And of course it should. Really. But that means common sense both on the part of the provider, and, crucially, the user. Lest we forget, here are some good reasons why rangers and their ilk can sometimes be a bit cautious about the Risks that people will willingly take in public places.
