The Dolphin Democrats and Log Cabin Republicans - the gay political groups from both political parties - normally don't agree on much. But citing incidents ranging from the murder earlier this year of gay teen Simmie Williams in Fort Lauderdale to anti-gay graffiti scrawled on homes in Wilton Manors, they're coming together this week to press public officials and candidates on Hate Crimes. Participants who’ve agreed to attend a Hate Crimes forum include Sheriff Al Lamberti, Circuit Court Judge Robert Lee, and a representative of State Attorney Michael Satz. The forum will include a discussion of Hate Crimes in Broward and how law enforcement, the judicial system and the community can deal with the problem. "Educating our community about how our law enforcement operates to protect everyone in our community, including members of the glbt [gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender] community is critical," said Justin Flippen, the Dolphins president. "Our right to enjoy in happiness the right to be who we are and live lives free from harm must not be infringed upon, and those who serve us either in uniform or in the halls of justice must remain sensitive to how our community is often the target of Hate, prejudice, and Crimes. Image: http://img1.anonbw.com/press/DVDCover.jpg CoS, for some obscure reason, have decided that this DVD is an effective weapon against the masses of Anonymous that are throwing wrenches into the gears of their money machine. This has gotten me thinking: How about making our own "Hate Crimes" DVD? We've already got Project Blockbuster done, although I am not certain how much did we use it. One thing that did bug me about it was that it aimed at the interested public more then at the clueless public. How about answering their DVD with our own - one that quickly summarizes their Crimes, their ongoing abuse of human rights, their aggressive reaction towards anyone who gets in their way or disagrees with their methods, and their well renowned bad taste in cloths? A North Carolina man has pleaded guilty to federal Hate crime charges for threatening employees of two civil rights organizations because of their race and national origin. The Department of Justice said Wednesday that Christopher Szaz of Raleigh sent threatening e-mails to employees at the National Council of La Raza and the Council on American Islamic Relations in Washington. According to court documents, Szaz sent two e-mail messages in June 2007 threatening to bomb CAIR's office. Szaz also sent an e-mail the next month stating he would kill employees at the La Raza office. Prosecutors said Szaz admitted his actions were motivated by racial and ethnic bias. He was sentenced to 45 days in prison. ...
