Last week, we caught a mention of Portland punkers the Thermals on MTV.com . In addition to dropping the name of the band's forthcoming fourth LP ( Now We Can See ), the article suggested that said album might not be released by the band's longtime label, Sub Pop . Curious, we shot an e-mail to the band. Thermals mouthpiece Hutch Harris shot us back a funny, generous e-mail about the current state of the band and taught us some things about Hello Kitty we were unaware of until now. Pitchfork : MTV.com's report mentioned that your new album's release will be on "a still TBD label." Can you fill us in on the situation? Hutch Harris : Nothing is for sure right now for us. Sub Pop offered us a contract for two more records which we ended up turning down, this was a little while ago. We had no problems with Sub Pop and we absolutely loved working with them, Kathy [Foster] and I just felt that we needed to go it alone again, for ourselves, for our "art", if even for just a short while. We've considered releasing the record ourselves, or licensing it ourselves to different territories. We are currently talking to many great labels, one of them being Sub Pop. After beating moderate Republican Rep. Wayne Gilchrest in Maryland's February primary, conservative State Senator Andy Harris is in good position to hold the Eastern Shore's First District for the GOP, despite Democratic optimism about their candidate, according to a new poll for Harris' campaign. The survey, taken by Arthur J. Finkelstein & Associates for Harris' campaign, polled 300 registered voters on 7/15 for a margin of error of +/- 5.65%. But the poll provides another reminder that every survey has to be taken with a grain of salt: Not only does a 300-voter sample size come with a high margin of error, but a survey that takes place on a single night is seen as much less reliable than a survey taken over multiple evenings. Harris is a strong fundraiser who's pulled in just over $2 million already and still has $609,000 on hand, more than Kratovil's $454,000, and the Republican has grassroots support from his fellow state senators in a heavily Republican district. From MLB: Willie Harris of the Washington Nationals has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 20th. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America’s long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment. Harris hit .583 (7-for-12) during the week and led the N.L. with seven RBI. The 30-year-old left fielder recorded a double, triple, home run, stolen base and five runs scored, while posting a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage. Harris collected multi-hit games in each of his three games played, including a home run and five RBI in the Nationals’ 15-6 win at Atlanta on July 20th. The Cairo, Georgia native is the only active MLB player to attend Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. This marks Willie’s first career weekly award honor. And the Nationals released some more interesting tidbits about Wee Willie: *Harris is batting .366 (26-for-71) with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 13 RBI, 12 walks and 3 stolen bags in 23 games beginning June 22.
