Hafner Powers Aeros to Game 3 Win I was going to make a fanpost about bringing up Laporta to the bigs once the Aeros season concludes, but I'll ask it over here and include Hafner in the discussion as well. The reason I ask about Laporta is that Milwaukee has just brought up three of Laporta's former teammates in Mat Gamel, Angel Salome, and Alcides Escobar. Milwaukee is obviously in a different position than we are in that they are fighting for the playoffs and any of these three players may provide a boost (particularly the catcher Salome). But why not bring up Laporta once the AA season ends? (I know service time, right?) ...

Cleveland Indians Travis Hafner is heading closer to off-season surgery on the shoulder that had the slugger on the disabled list for most of the season. Mark Shapiro gave a press conference today and stated: "The progress was not what we had hoped we'd see," Shapiro said. "Right now, we're examining our alternatives with him." Hafner struggled all season long and hit .217 with only 4 home runs. The team sat him down and didn't pursue surgery on the advice of doctors. Now, after his shoulder has not appeared to strengthen as it should, the team says that he may be heading for arthroscopic surgery which would mean he wouldn't miss any time in the 2009 season. When asked about the injury, Hafner said the the lingering injury is at about 75% strength. Shapiro said that the team would not pursue on off-season addition if Hafner was unable to return to his once slugging form: "If, for some reason, [Hafner] can't go next year," Shapiro said, "that would be an adjustment we'd make from the players we have internally." ...
