Don't memorialize the 'Dark Knight' star's death with an Academy Award. It's time to stop the canonization of HEATH Ledger. He's not a tragic hero. He's not a beautiful martyr. He's just a pretty good actor who did away with himself and broke the hearts of his FAMILY and friends, and he shouldn't get an Academy Award to memorialize his death. ...

If you haven't seen The Dark Knight, and you're more than 13 years old, you should go. Right. Now. It's that good. But writer Eric P. Lucas' unsympathetic piece is gonna generate some blowback. ...

HEATH LEDGER's FAMILY attended Monday's The Dark Knight premiere in New York, where the late actor's father left the theater giving a thumbs-up sign. Kim Ledger and his wife Ines - HEATH's stepmother - bypassed the red carpet and ducked into the theater to watch his late son play The Joker in the latest Batman film. Also attending the premiere were HEATH's mother Sally Bell and her husband, and HEATH's older sister, Kate. As his father Kim left, he was asked how it felt to attend, responding with the thumbs-up. He also told reporters it was "very good." HEATH LEDGER's costars, meanwhile, used the occasion to pay tribute to him. "Working with HEATH was fantastic," said Christian Bale, 34, who reprises his role as the Caped Crusader. "He steals the movie and I'm quite happy to say that. He's a hell of a talent and created a joker that's very iconic and one that will become a classic portrayal of the ages." Michael Caine, 75, who plays butler Alfred Pennyworth in the film, which opens July 18, noted the "intensity and ferocity of the performance." ...

Its Western shirts have been worn by everyone from Elvis Presley in "Love Me Tender" to HEATH Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain." Actor Clark Gable and singer Bob Dylan also sported Rockmount Ranch Wear shirts, and when the Democratic National Convention rolls around, each member of Colorado's House delegation will have his or her own custom-made shirt. "The bottom line is, we are unique," said Steve Weil, Rockmount's president and the grandson of 107-year-old Jack A. Weil, the company's founder, fondly known as "Papa Jack." "We are the last domestic manufacturer of our type of product," Steve Weil said. Rockmount is a FAMILY-owned business that has stayed competitive in the global market. ...

Brideshead Revisited (PG-13) Indie drama as told through the memoirs of Captain Charles Ryder, who is stationed at Brideshead Castle during World War II, and details his involvement with the aristocratic Flyte FAMILY and in particular siblings Sebastian and Julia. (Wingdings 171) The Dark Knight (PG-13) Batman (Christian Bale) sets out to dismantle the remaining crime mobs that plague Gotham, but the city soon finds itself prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by the Joker (the late HEATH Ledger, in an astonishing performance). Epic in scale (if not occasionally hard to follow), the tone is wonderfully dark and the street chases are exciting, but every scene with Ledger absolutely crackles -- his creation will be one of the most legendary movie villains of all time. Filed under: Action , Awards , Celebrities and Controversy , Fandom , Comic/Superhero/Geek , Oscar Watch , Fan Rant An editorialist named Eric P. Lucas says in Friday's Los Angeles Times that since HEATH LEDGER's death was the result of his own recklessness, he therefore should not win an Oscar for his performance in The Dark Knight . "It's time to stop the canonization of HEATH Ledger," Lucas begins . "He's just a pretty good actor who did away with himself and broke the hearts of his FAMILY and friends, and he shouldn't get an Academy Award to memorialize his death. ... Each year more than 100,000 Americans die of alcohol or drug abuse. It would be madness to commemorate one such death with the greatest honor in cinema. Please give the Academy Award to someone who's had the courage to stick around." Lucas asserts that LEDGER's performance isn't all that great anyway -- "a can-can dance of snuffling pseudo-psychopathia," he calls it -- but that's irrelevant to his larger point. It would seem that even if LEDGER's Joker truly did represent the finest acting of the year, his personal behavior should disqualify him from Oscar consideration. To Lucas I say this: Wanna watch me make this pencil disappear? I actually agree with a lot of what he writes about how certain people's drug- or alcohol-fueled deaths make them more iconic than they would have been otherwise. Did Kurt Cobain's suicide rob my generation of its greatest poet? Nah. ...

Get this: Bob Saget is pissed because people made fun of him at the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget . Well, actually he’s pissed because people made fun of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who played his daughter on the 80s/90s sitcom Full House . "Anybody who talks about my TV kids, that upsets me,” said Saget. “I am very protective. I love them very, very much." One of the quips in question came from Jeff Ross: "Full House should have been called blackjack, because you hit on the Olsens when they were eight and didn’t stop till they we’re twenty-one." It’s definitely a great line, but knowing what he’s capable of, I would have liked to see Ross take it even further. Say, for instance… "As we all know, Bob still is very close to the Olsen twins. Without them, Bob would feel a lost connection to his past and miss out on a future with an extended FAMILY. Plus, how else would he ever get ahold of that shit Mary-Kate sold to HEATH Ledger?" ...

I was in the car when word of Morgan Freeman’s accident was announced on CNN. I literally held my breath as the reporter relayed the accident details, until she stated Freeman was in serious, but stable condition. Glosslip’s own “k” has some more information about the Oscar winner’s dangerous accident in Mississippi. After the initial shock wore off, and I consoled myself that at least Morgan wasn’t killed (I am a huge Morgan Freeman fan, so this really was upsetting news) it occurred to me this was the third major dark event to hit the stars of the film. As we all know, the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight , which has made close to $400M in the three weeks since it opened, features an amazing performance by the late HEATH Ledger who died this past January from an accidental prescription drug overdose. Ledger, haunted by his work in the film, had suffered from chronic insomnia and seemed to be medicating his way through a dark period sparked by his role as the homicidal Joker character. Ledger admitted in interviews that he had tapped into some very disturbing elements of his psyche to play such an intense role. The wake of his death left many unanswered questions and a grieving FAMILY to ponder what might have been for the talented star. While many have been drawn to the film to watch what was Ledger’s final completed project, another brooding character from the film, British actor Christian Bale resurrected his tortured role as Bat ...
