With Virginia as a battleground state in the 2008 election and given Democrat Barack Obama's damaging gaffe earlier this year about rural voters clinging " to guns or religion ", a new gaffe by another Democrat should be worthy of media attention. It remains to be seen if the mainstream media will even notice. (h/t Reformed Chicks Blabbing ) Running to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Republican John Warner, former Gov. Mark Warner (no relation) has a healthy lead in recent polls and the admiration of a pliant media. Yet an audio recording of Warner at a Democratic Party gathering caught the candidate disparaging Gun Owners, home schoolers, and religious conservatives as "threatening to what it means to be an American." Republican opponent and former Gov. Jim Gilmore has a campaign ad (embedded below the fold) that features the audio: ... Source: blog.mlive.com --- 33 days ago

Following up on our item on CNN.com last week, Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Florida) has apologized for his attack on Sarah Palin that strangely smeared hunters and Gun Owners as racists and anti-Semites: "anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks." CNN Political Ticker reports it again, but there's no explicit identification of Hastings as a Democrat (plus no mention in either post that Hastings was impeached and removed as a federal judge.) The headline is bland again: "Black Florida congressman apologies [ sic ] for Palin comments." CNN's Martina Stewart elides the D label by noting Hastings "spoke at a panel on the shared agenda of Jewish and African-American Democrats during the annual conference of the National Jewish Democratic Council," and was attacked by Jewish Republicans, so a reader can deduce the point. But it's funny how reporters can just tiptoe around the basics. ... Source: www.newsbusters.org --- 15 days ago
CNN's Political Ticker blog didn't bury the lead on Thursday afternoon: Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.” So not only is Palin a racist and anti-Semite, so is anyone who totes a Gun? But CNN's headline was ridiculously bland: "Florida congressman points to Palin to rally Jews to Obama." CNN's Martina Stewart added that the crowd at the National Jewish Democratic Council roared at this mudslingling line, that " the room erupted in laughter and applause." Another congressman, Jewish Rep. Steven Cohen, announced Jesus was a Democrat: Cohen, who recently remarked that Jesus Christ was a community organizer, took his comments about the founder of the Christian faith further Wednesday. “A lot of what Jesus talks about is wonderful,” Cohen said. “Talks about helping people and lifting them up and caring about people who are sick and all those things. He’s a great Democrat.” At least ABCNews.com carried a more direct headline on its Political Radar blog: "Florida Congressman: Palin 'Don't Care Too Much What They Do With Jews and Blacks'." They reported: Asked what the congressman meant, Hastings spokesman David Goldenberg told ABC News that he was trying to argue that Palin is an "extremely conservative woman who is out of touch with ma ...

As readers of this website are aware, last week the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that R.C. 9.68 is valid , and that municipalities may not infringe on the broad statutory and constitutional right to carry firearms. Within a few days, this opinion saw application in courtrooms around the state. Readers of this website are familiar with the story of Damon Wells , the young man in Cleveland who shot at thugs in self-defense last year, killing one. Subsequently, his house was vandalized by people mourning the thugs and his life has generally been turned upside down. Regina Brett with the Cleveland Plain Dealer did a nice series on the incident and the aftermath. Unfortunately, the City of Cleveland is among those determined to make Damonâs life a continuing series of aggravations. After the thugsâ trial, Damon had to fight with Cleveland to obtain return of his Gun . It was only through volunteer efforts of Buckeye Firearms Association that the Court eventually ordered Cleveland to return Damonâs Gun. To add further insult to injury, the City of Cleveland recently charged Damon with possession of an unregistered handgun as a result of a traffic stop on a car in which he was a passenger. You arenât misreading. Damon, who has a CHL and who the Court ordered Cleveland to return a Gun to, has been charged with possession of an unregistered handgun under Clevelandâs ordinances. âBut I thought cities couldnât require registration ...

By Tim Inwood This has been a most unusual political year for me--unusual in that I was having trouble working up real enthusiasm for the Republican nominee after the primary season, as I thrive on politics. But I had little joy this time. I will confess John McCain was not my first pick, nor even my second or third choice, in the primary process. His record on guns has not been good enough for my tastes. Hence my lackluster desire to get too involved. His often reaching across the aisle also made me somewhat suspicious. I did not care for his status as a Maverick bucking conservative trends. The words from an essay circulating on the Internet best expressed how I felt about Senator McCain: âSenator John McCain could never convince me to vote for him. Only Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama can cause me to vote for McCain.â Indeed this was pretty much the case. Senator Barack Obama inspired me to act for Senator McCain. Obama has a terrible record on guns and Gun rights. He argued to allow criminals to sue people who defended themselves with firearms, and to allow the state of Illinois to prosecute homeowners who used a firearm to defend themselves. He thought his support of the Washington D.C. Gun ban was entirely consistent with his claim that he supported the Second Amendment. Pure nonsense. The man is your typical anti-Gun liberal democrat. A couple months ago I was asked to be the Coordinator for Sportsmen and Gun Owners for ...

9/5/08 - Federal charges have been dropped against the Owners of a Highland Township Gun store. The Gun Barn on M-59 had been raided by federal agents on August 14th and closed down. It was learned that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a federal search warrant on the Gun Barn and seized all of the stores guns while arresting two Highland residents, Gabriel Kish and Debbie Summers. They were charged with selling firearms without a license in US District Court in Detroit and were scheduled to appear at an exam this week. However, US Attorney Robert Haviland tells WHMI that charges against the pair have been dismissed pending further investigation. ATF agent Robin Shoemaker says a yearlong investigation found the pair allegedly sold firearms even though the store's federal license was revoked in 2004 for rule violations. A second store in Genesee Countys Otisville was also raided. (JM) ... Source: ace.mu.nu --- 19 days ago
