Filed under: Soccer , Soccer Posts Many of the soccer balls that children in the United States and Europe play with are hand-stitched by children in India who work under brutal conditions for pennies a day, according to a report that will air tonight on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel . The report demonstrates that soccer balls sold at Wal-Mart and other American stores were produced by children who were sold into indentured servitude by their parents in India. After past scandals about soccer ball companies using child labor, many companies started putting labels on their balls that say the balls weren't made with child labor. But Real Sports shows that those labels are often sewn on the balls by children as young as 6 years old. Real Sports correspondent Bernard Goldberg interviews one Indian man who is working to stop the use of child labor, but he's a lonely voice with a Herculean task ahead of him. Goldberg's report is a sobering look at the soccer ball industry, without a happy ending. Real Sports first airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and re-airs throughout the month. Yes, yes, I know, he's "clutch" because he made a few big field goals in big games when he played for the Patriots. But Vinatieri doesn't make big field goals nearly as often as he misses short field goals. With the Colts trailing the Minnesota Vikings 15-7 in the fourth quarter at the Metrodome, Vinatieri took the field for a 30-yard field goal. He missed, wide right. Does that surprise you? It shouldn't. Vinatieri ranked 28th in the NFL last year in field goal accuracy , including a pathetic 0-for-2 from beyond 39 yards. (Vinatieri also has one of the weakest legs in the league on kickoffs.) The miss did surprise CBS announcers Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf, who apparently haven't watched much football lately and were under the impression that Vinatieri is good. He isn't. One of five 3-0 teams in the NFL, the Denver Broncos will put their undefeated record on the line this week when they face the Kansas City Chiefs (0-3) on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CDT, and the game will be broadcast on CBS by Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf. Denver improved to 3-0 for the first time in five seasons after its 34-32 home win against New Orleans last week. The Broncos took a 21-3 lead early in the second quarter and held on for the win after making several key fourth-quarter defensive stops, including a deflected pass on a potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt and a third-and-1 with the Saints driving for a go-ahead score. The Broncos face a Chiefs team that lost 38-14 to the Falcons on the road last week. Kansas City has started three different quarterbacks in each of its first three games, becoming the fourth team since the 1970 NFL merger (non-strike seasons only) with that distinction. Last year, the Broncos swept their two-game season series against the Chiefs with wins of 27-11 (Nov. 11) and 41-7 (Dec. 9).
