The Green Line in South Los Angeles may be the oddest light-rail Line in California, notorious for going from nowhere to nowhere. Sen. Jenny Oropeza, one of the key lawmakers who has been blocking progress on a ballot measure that would improve L.A. County's public transit system, wants credit for changing that. Because of her obstructionism, there's a good chance that the Green Line will run from somewhere to nowhere. Yippee. Oropeza, a Democrat out of Long Beach, is one of several local politicians who have been holding Measure R -- a ballot initiative that would impose a half-cent sales tax increase on L.A. County residents to pay for public transit -- hostage. Like most of the others, Oropeza wanted to make sure a good share of the proceeds went to her district. Today, she sent out a news release crowing that AB 2321, which would place Measure R on the ballot, now includes language guaranteeing funding to extend the Green Line to Los Angeles International Airport. The bill, with the opposition from Oropeza and others withdrawn, has now passed through the Senate Appropriations Committee. The Green Line runs along the 105 Freeway in South L.A. from Norwalk to... almost... LAX, and then south to Redondo Beach. Bizarrely, it stops two miles short of the airport. Fixing that might end a historical oddity and make life a little easier for airport workers, but it won't do much to improve traffic around LAX or ridership on the Green ... I searched the forum but did not see any previous posts of this problem. I have a Motorola DCT3416 STB and a Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U LCD TV with the Comcast digital starter package in Kennesaw GA. I got this TV and STB in March '08. I have the STB set to 1080i with HDMI. At first I had no problems except an occasional HDCP handshake problem that was easily corrected by powering off the TV and STB and restarting. In the last month or so when viewing a HD channel in the "Dot for Dot" mode I get a thin (about 1/4") vertical stripe on the right side of the screen. It only appears when viewing a HD channel. The Blu-Ray DVD player displays fine as does my pc which both also have HDMI connections. My TV grays out the screen positional controls when it senses a HDMI connection so that is not an option. I've also tried changing the color space on the STB from YCC 4-4-4 to RGB which does get rid of the Green stripe but substitutes a vertical distortion on the left side of about a half inch. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how is it corrected? ... Source: www.huffingtonpost.com --- 12 days ago
A CTA Green Line train headed for the Loop struck a pedestrian who jumped in front of it early Monday on Chicago's West Side, police said. The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. at the Laramie Avenue station, and the victim was still alive, police said. However, the severity of that person's injuries was unclear. Train service along the Green Line was shut down in both directions between the Laramie and Pulaski Road Stations, said Kim Myles, a Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman. A shuttle bus was operating for affected customers between the Austin Boulevard and California Avenue stations, Myles said. ... Source: lasvegasvegas.magnify.net --- 11 days ago

The Green Line Advisory Group of Medford (GLAM) last week challenged the validity of a survey released by the Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance (MGNA) presenting 2,022 signatures in support of bringing the Green Line extension to an end at Route 16 in Somerville. “I don’t see it as being a scientific petition or representing more than 1 percent of Medford,” said Carolyn Rosen, chairperson of GLAM. Of the signatures, 48 percent, or about 970, listed a Medford residence. Rosen said this should not be taken as the general will of the city’s inhabitants. “Of course it’s not a scientific study of public opinion,” said Ken Krause, MGNA spokesperson. “It’s a petition putting forth a point of view and it’s a thousand more signatures than I’ve seen from any other organization on this issue.” In addition, Rosen said, the petition was not presented in the context of all the issues surrounding a Route 16 terminus location. The Executive Office of Transportation (EOT) has lately urged members of the Green Line Extension Project Advisory Group, of which Krause is a member, to withhold recommendations for a terminus stop until a number of scientific studies are completed. The studies include analyses of noise, vibration, ridership numbers and possible terminus locations on College Avenue in Medford and Route 16. It is expected that the results of the studies will weigh heavily into the EOT’s future recommendations. “Anyone signing a p ... Find more results for Green Line on RSSMicro.com |
