This past May, two weeks before “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” opened worldwide, George Lucas told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that he already had an idea for a possible “Indiana Jones V,” and that it centered, not on Dr. Henry Jones, but on his son, Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf). Three [...] ...

I was just reading Matt's take on Clone Wars when it occurred to me that the worst thing about this new flick is that it will obscure the beautifully surreal 2003-2005 series of animated shorts by the same name. That first series, which ran on Cartoon Network, was simply the most original thing to come out of Star Wars since the original trilogy. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky of Samurai Jack fame, the Clone Wars were almost an anti-Star Wars--the art is minimalist, the dialouge sparse, and its power comes story and not from spectacle. I actually found the action scenes in the CN shorts to be much more compelling than anything I saw in the films. The whole series is entertaining refutation to the "more is more" theory of the world. UPDATE: Because Kevdog mentioned it, I went and dug up the incredible chase scene at the end. SPOILER-ALERT: Don't watch these if you don't want to know how it ends, I'm so tempted to post Anakin's fight at the end, which was--uhm--deep. He achieved more humanity and tragedy there then in anything Lucas has ever done. ...

Ahsoka Tano, un nouveau personnage introduit dans la famille Star Wars Qu’est-ce qui motive George Lucas à perpétuer la saga Star Wars? Est-ce son imagination insatiable? Un besoin d’argent? Well, sort of. Ann Hornaday has an essay in the Post this weekend making the uncontroversial point that Lucas's recent movies, up to and including the animated Clone Wars feature hitting theaters this month, often feel like little more than "software to demonstrate or advertise his visual effects, sound, game, TV and animation businesses." I have no disagreements with her critique of the late-career Lucas; indeed, if anything, I think she goes a little far congratulating herself for pointing what's been obvious to any thinking moviegoer for a decade now. ("Lucas ... has become such an ingrained presence on the cinematic landscape, such a brand unto himself, that he's attained the pop-culture equivalent of elemental status," she writes. "To question what he does and how he does it is tantamount to questioning the air we breathe or the water we drink: George Lucas just is." Um, really ? Has she read the reviews for the Star Wars prequels?) But then Hornaday does something that every disillusioned Star Wars fan has been tempted to do, during a long Dooku night of the soul: She reads the prequels back into the original trilogy: Similarly, the "Star Wars" space opera consistently demonstrated Lucas's limitations as a storyteller, even as it tapped into the mass audience's most fundamental hunger for archetype and myth. As refreshing as the initial 1977 installment was -- an escapist, retro thrill ride in the midst of a grittily realis ...

Rebelscum.com Maybe I've learned to let go of my hate — I just can't get cheesed off at George Lucas like I used to. A lot of that has to do with how Lucas has come to embrace the lighter side of the Force, what with his involvement in "Robot Chicken: Star Wars" and this fashion statement . Still, Lucas in carbonite does tickle the dark side within just a little. Click the link for a bigger view. (Spotted via reddit .) — Ren&eacute A. Guzman ...

Is George Lucas prepping for another Indiana Jones movie? According to E! News, not anytime soon. Despite speculation that Shia LaBeouf might take over the franchise, Lucas insists the research and time involved in making a decent sequel make it unlikely we'll see Indiana Jones 5 anytime soon. "That sits on the shelf there as one of 50 projects that I have to deal with," he said. "It's Very hard to come up with stories for that thing ... (A plot is) really impossible, because it has to be real. It has to be something that actually happens, it has to be something people know about, and it has to be supernatural." Wow, George Lucas has 50 projects on his shelf? We now know Indy 5 is up there, but what else? Thankfully The Juice* has obtained this exclusive list of Lucas's other 49 unfinished projects:Star Wars: Episode VII: Cloud City Rockers Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Resurrection Of Greedo Star Wars: Episode IX: One Hand Luke Star Wars: Episode X: Jabba Gets Jiggy Star Wars: Episode XI: Just Shut Up And Take It, You Stupid Nerds Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope: Collector’s Edition: More F---ing Lasers Star Wars, But With A New Six-Second Snippet Of A New Digital Character; Let’s Call Him, Oh, Lieutentant Tulailo Star Wars, But With A New Six-Second Snippet Of A New Digital Character; Let’s Call Him, Oh, Lieutentant Tulailo: Director’s Cut Indiana Jones and the Nightmare at the Cineplex Indiana Jones and the Lost Eight Dollars I ...

Filed under: Action , Casting , Paramount , RumorMonger , George Lucas , Steven Spielberg , Remakes and Sequels Less than three months ago, Eugene told us George Lucas was hinting that his Indiana Jones franchise might continue on with Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) as the main character and that Indy (Harrison Ford) would be more of a secondary figure. But MTV Movies Blog now reports that Lucas has had a change of mind and instead plans to make a fifth installment with our beloved hero still in the lead. During promotions for the new Star Wars: Clone Wars movie, he apparently stated that, "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones. If it was Mutt Williams it would be 'Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis' or something." Could it be, as MTV suggests, that due to fans' dissatisfaction with Mutt and/or due to LaBeouf's problems with the law that Lucas no longer sees the character as a viable investment? Or did he merely come to his senses about how much more money the movie would make with Ford starring? Lucas says that "Indy 5" is still only an idea but that people are researching possible artifacts to base the movie around. Personally, I don't care what kind of MacGuffin is used, so long as the Nazis are the villains again. The commies in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull just didn't do it for me. I know the temporal setting can't be WWII anymore, but Indy could always head back into South America and battle the Na ...

LaBeouf and Ford in this summer's top-grossing ... documentary? Indiana Jones creator George Lucas has lost his marbles. He told the folks at Sci Fi Wire that research is under way for a fifth installment in his period adventure series. "It's very hard to come up with stories for that thing," Lucas explained. "You know, It's really impossible. Because it has to be real. It has to be something that actually happened." That's news to me. I didn't realize that aliens actually buried a ginormous flying saucer beneath a Mayan temple, thousands of years ago. read more ...
