Tinseltown's top male earner is Will Smith, who's pocketed a whopping $80m (around £40m), largely thanks to the success of Hancock. Next on the list is Johnny Depp with a not-too-shabby $74m (around £37m), followed by Eddie Murphy, who made $55m (around £27.5m). Other high earners included Will Ferrell, Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler. Vince Vaughn is the best star for the buck, says Forbes magazine. Vaughn raked in $14.73 of gross income for studios for every dollar he was paid for "The Break-up," "Wedding Crashers" and "Dodgeball," the magazine calculated for its special entertainment issue, now on newsstands. "That's because until recently his salary was relatively low, and the films he was in, like 'Wedding Crashers' and 'The Break-up,' had modest budgets yet did extremely well at the box office worldwide ($285 million and $205 million, respectively)," Forbes said. Forbes said it compiled the Ultimate Star Payback list by looking at the stars' last three films that opened wide in at least 1,000 theaters before 2008 and were made in the last five years. It calculated the gross income for each film by adding half the worldwide box office and the first three months of wholesale DVD revenues and then subtracting its budget. The gross income was divided by the actor's total compensation to derive his or her payback for the movie. Tobey Maguire ranked No. 2 on the list, with a gross income return of $13.44 for each dollar of his pay for the "Spider-Man" sequels and "Seabiscuit." Julia Roberts was in third place with a gross income return of $13.19. Brad Pitt ranked fourth with $12.73, followed by Naomi Watts and Matt Damon ($12.16 each), George Clooney ($11.56), Jennifer Aniston ($10.48), Hugh Jackman ($9.90) and Ben Stiller ($9.50). Filed under: ER , Reality-Free This originally was going to be yet another post on how George Clooney might come back to ER one last time in the final season of the show (executive producer John Wells says he hasn't asked him yet). But we've been back and forth on that so many times that we really don't know what's going to happen. However, TV critic Terry Morrow did ask Wells if any characters on the show would be killed off in the show's last season, and Wells says that yes, at least one person on ER will die before the show ends . He didn't, however, say whether it's a current cast member or if it's someone new that will be introduced this season. So assuming that it's a character we already know, who do you think it should be? After the jump, a poll. Should a helicopter fall on Morris? How about Neela getting shot by a patient? With our big filmfest continuing to drop movie titles week after week like confetti cascading down from motion- picture heaven, it’s come to my attention that Brad Pitt ’s new one, Burn After Reading , is pretty much confirmed to also bow here in September. That is to say, Brad and whatshername and their brood of six — the original four, and now those new, non-negotiable twins — may very well be celebrating Knox and Vivienne ’s two-month B-day in these parts. And if Angelina Jolie ’s latest, The Changeling , directed by Clint Eastwood , is also part of the TIFF hymn sheet — a strong possibility — then that should cinch the deal. Shouldn’t it? Burn After Reading , as some might know, is the latest movie to come out of the Coen Brothers cannon. Besides Pitt, it’s got a cast so polished and worth coveting that one is surprised Steve Jobs didn’t have something to do with it!
