Now that same-sex couples can get married in California, state prison officials are trying to figure out what that means for Gay inmates. Heterosexual or same-sex, it's still about being grown-ups. Atelevision ad supporting Proposition 8 implies that Gay marriage would have to be "taught" in California public schools unless the right of same-sex couples to marry is overturned. It makes me wonder: What exactly do you teach when you teach Gay marriage? How to get same-sex Weddings announced in the New York Times? ... Source: www.washingtonpost.com --- 37 days ago

Because counties don't keep a tally of whether the couples who get marriage licenses are of the same gender, it's been impossible to know how many Gay and lesbian Weddings have occurred since the state Supreme Court ruling took effect in mid-June. All of these marriages would probably be declared invalid--a kind of mass divorce by state initiative--if Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage passes in November. The Williams Institute at UCLA came out today with a number, or at least an estimate: 11,000 same-sex Weddings from June 17 to September 17. They did this by totting up, county by county, the number of marriages last year during that time and comparing it with this year, assuming that most of the increase would have been a result of the Supreme Court ruling. That seems like a pretty good assumption, since the biggest increases were seen in counties like L.A. and San Francisco that are known to have big Gay populations. This fits in neatly with the big delay to the big Proposition 8 sign-planting. Remember how in late September, a possible 1 million religionists were supposed to march out of their homes, at roughly the same time, and plant a Yes on Proposition 8 sign on their front lawns? Seems the printing of a number of those signs was outsourced to another country or countries--the campaign isn't saying which, but the blog rumor mill has been saying China--and the signs were somehow delayed. I see that the bumper sticker ... Source: www.huffingtonpost.com --- 14 days ago
According to Clay ("Don't Touch Me!") Aiken, it is a big Gay world out there. And that's what the press wants you to believe. From my viewpoint, as a fuchsia card-carrying Gay alpha male, every few years there's a boondoggle in Gay stories in America: the Supreme Court said OK to sodomy in Texas; Iowa in the heartland says OK to Gay Weddings; Richard Chamberlain (Richard! Chamberlain!) claims he's a homo; while finally (my favorite) MTV said OK to the airing of a band (t.A.t.U.) that portrays itself as being "all lesbian, all the time." The mega-ratings grabber Tia Tequila featured a bisexual lady of indiscriminate taste, but I'm not sure if she's into sex as much as she is into showing off her inanity. Yawn, digress. Is all this really the series of huge breakthroughs the media are suggesting? Because it sounds to me like just a lot of hype to sell a bunch of dying papers. Truth is, we've seen this all before. As I clamor for someone to just enact a single bold headline: "He's Gay, So What?" A generation and a half ago, Rock Hudson came out to the world on his deathbed because of complications from AIDS, smack-dab in the middle of Reagan America. At that point, a scant few years before the Supremes said no to sodomy in Georgia, the mass media talked a good game and asked Americans to be a lot more compassionate in their dealings with their Gay brothers and sisters. Then we waited for 24.5 years -- past noise like "Don't ask, don ... Source: www.femalefirst.co.uk --- 4 days ago

The defeat next month of the state proposition that seeks to prohibit same sex marriages could mean hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in personal, business and government revenue from same-sex Weddings over the next three years in Sonoma County, according to a study released today. The report was prepared by Sonoma State University’s Center for Regional Economic Analysis and was paid for by a grant from the Horizons Foundation, a philanthropic social justice organization serving lesbian, Gay, bisexual and transgender communities in the Bay Area. Details of the report were highlighted by Robert Eyler, Chair of Sonoma State’s Department of Economics and the Center’s director at a luncheon this afternoon attended by state and local officials and members of the No on 8 Campaign. The report concludes 430 to 865 new jobs would be created between 2009 and 2011 from same-sex Weddings in Sonoma County and new wages for new and existing workers will total $13.7-$27.6 million. New state and local government tax and other revenue is estimated $2.4-$4.8 million and new business revenue would be $40.2-$80.7 million, according to the report. The report estimates 1,534 same-sex couples from around the country will travel to Sonoma County to marry between 2009 and 2011. Of that number, 1,496 couples will be from California, the state with the most same sex couples. “The major policy recommendation from this study is to market Sonoma Co ...

''After Nov. 4, it's possible the door to having that experience of a legally recognized marriage will be closed. And faced with that, many couples have, to some degree, rushed to get married in order to assure that they are legally recognized.'' Kate Kendell of the National Center for Lesbian Rights remarking on a UCLA Williams Institute study that finds some 3,800 same-sex couples per month are rushing to get married in California. The legality of Gay marriage in that state is being put up to vote through Proposition 8. Many of the marriages being held are said to be by out-of-state residents. Massachusetts remains the only other state in the USA to perform same-sex Weddings and, thanks mostly to archane law dug up by anti-Gay former Governor Mitt Romney, out-of-state residents cannot be joined in that Massachusetts if their union is not recognized in their home state .
