Citizen scientists have helped astronomers identify more than 900,000 Galaxies. Galaxy Zoo, a tool conceived and launched last July by an international team of physicists, harnesses humans' natural pattern-recognition skills to determine whether never-before-seen images of Galaxies taken by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey are elliptical or spiral. It's clearly helpful to run a distributed program on a 150,000-strong human brain cluster, but what's in it for the everyday people paging through galaxy images? Two of the site's founders suggest that it's the spirit of exploration. "An attractive feature of the project was that these Galaxies had literally never been looked at before with the human eye – so people really felt that they were helping with original and unique contributions," write two founders of the site, Chris Lintott, a physicist at the University of Oxford, and Kate Land, in Physics World. The huge reams of data that astronomers' tools create have provided several opportunities for at-home scientists to help their professional counterparts. The first of these projects, Stardust@home, leveraged NASA fans to look for interstellar dust impacts in comet images, and inspired the creation of Galaxy Zoo. Since the site launched last July, more than 50 million individual galaxy identifications have been made. The TCPrime server has received some more updates for the Galactic Moon Festival, which launches Oct. 14 on the live servers. One of the most noticeable changes is that most rewards have had a 30% Galactic Moon Festival coin cost reduction. Also, the number of festival celebrants in Moenia and Mos Eisley has increased. Galactic Moon Festival Coins no longer have a lifespan and are now permanent. Players can now purchase the Galactic Moon Festival badge while their coins are in their backpack. The TCPrime server has received a new build that focuses on testing the upcoming Galactic Moon Festival, which launches Oct. 14 as a Halloween celebration. According to the notes, all costumes have a 30-minute timer and cannot be worn while in combat. If your costume is scary enough, you will be able to get some prizes as a result of trick-or-treating. Also, the notes state that veterans of the game who have played SWG for 63 months can choose a mini-replica of either the Yoda Fountain or Emperor's Statue, which will be able to fit inside a home. Galactic Moon Festival: Visit the Galactic Moon Festival Organizer, Z'ozpheratu, outside of the Moenia and Mos Eisley starports (waypoints 4790 -4777 and 3523 -4806 respectively). Talk to Z'ozpheratu to obtain a costume to use for trick or treating, purchase special Galactic Moon Festival items, and find out more about the festival. All costumes have a thirty minute timer.
