Dateline: New York, Milan and Paris Every Fashion Week Season, I try and keep up with all the latest runway shows from New York, Milan and Paris, since I think it's important to do so, as a fashion designer and as a fashion "commentator". Since I am also in the middle of completing my own Spring 2009 collection, I like to see that I am "on the right path" and not coming from "left field". Sometimes "left field" is good; it ignites excitement, interest, sparks fashionista conversation, etc. But in terms of being "on trend" with the mood of Fashion for 2009, it's never a bad thing---for me---to keep at least one eye, on what the designers in the top fashion capitals are doing. Here are several of my favorite videos of the latest Spring 2009 Collections. Victor & Rolf: First of all, just days ago, the Dutch duo of Victor & Rolf , debuted their Spring 2009 Collection . But of course, they did it with an original "twist". Victor & Rolf are known for their theatrics and unique shows. You may remember their infamous Babushka Doll Show ; their Backwards Show , where the first exit was actually the last dress; or their Fall '07 show where each model had heavy steel rigs built into their bodies that held tungsten lights and speakers. They definitely march to a beat of their fashion drum when it comes to showing their collections. Whatever the Dolce & Gabbana boys are doing, they should keep on doing, because they're setting the runways on fire. Maybe it's the dramatic clothes against the sleek black background, but the house's Spring collection commands attention. It's part sexy, part girlie, some forward, and all innovative. There's a lot going on, so bear with me. The first thing is the incorporation of silk pajamas in a streamlined way. Hugh Hefner would be proud! Silk pajama tops are tucked into tiny black shorts, big poufy floral skirts, and matching silk cropped trousers. Domenico and Stefano want us to change the way we look at sleepwear. On the sexy end of the spectrum, there are corset cropped tops, bustier-style skirt suits, and leg revealing shorts.
