To say that Saturday Night Live is still on the cutting edge of comedy would be presuming the tip of a musket plunger could be sharp enough to pierce through a barrier of banality. Fresh off the release of GTA IV , the cut-ups at SNL cobbled together a skit for their most recent Weekend Update segment. With Bill Hader as Niko and Fred Armisen as Vlad, the two poke fun at GTA IV's mo-capping and outrageous dialog. And like the typical SNL skit, it stops being funny five minutes before it ends. Chris Baker and I are so in love with Grand Theft Auto IV that we thought we'd spend an entire episode of Game|Life the Video talking about it. I really am being serious when I say it felt, for a brief fleeting second, like a real-life city. I don't know if my feelings for Liberty City are something that I'll always feel, or whether we'll look back on GTA IV in a few years and laugh at how primitive it is. Either way, it's awesome in the here and now. GTA IV has some problems. Some are pretty great , but most have resulted in freezes and lock-ups , which aren't great. And while a recent patch has fixed some of those problems, it hasn't fixed all of them, leaving a lot of GTA IV players still in the lurch. If that's you and you own a 60GB PS3, help may be on the way, as a poster over on the official PS3 forums has received an email from Take-Two support, who apparently told him Sony are working on a quick firmware update for the console, which will hopefully fix the issues 60GB users ( who were the first to report problems with the game ) have been having. Take with salt, yada yada.
