According to Jon Peddie Research, GPU shipments this quarter fell by levels not seen since 2005. The report shows that GPU shipments fell by 5.6% compared to Q4 07. However, on a positive note, shipments are up 20% compared to Q1 07. [poll=292]  Intel continues to lead the field thanks to its grip on the integrated graphics market. Good news for AMD in that shipments are up, but the company still lost ground to rival nVIDIA. According to Jon Peddie Research, we should keep a close eye on Q2 sales given that ATi and nVIDIA both have no new GPU revisions planned for that period. ...

The vision of upgradeable graphic cards goes back to the late 1990s, when Micron Technology was experimenting with removable sockets. In 2006, both MSI and Gigabyte showcased upgradeable graphic cards, but their concepts, which were based on GeForce Go MXM boards, never took off. Earlier this year, Asus introduced a single board with three MXM slots for ATI Mobility Radeon 3850 or 3870 cards (upgradeable with future parts), and has now unveiled its single-MXM product. ...

Microsoft had all sorts of trouble with the reliability of its XBox 360. Tales of the "Red Ring of Death" gave potential buyers pause, and Microsoft spend a small fortune replacing defective units. One of the main reasons the game console was so fragile is that the 90nm scale GPU ran very hot. 65nm chips to the rescue!Microsoft will make available its Jasper version of XBox360 game consoles in August this year and has contracted dedicated chipmakers to build chips for the latest machine. Contracts for manufacturing, ...

I've just ran the Omega ATI overclocking utility, and it reckons I can safely bump the GPU core speed from 324Mhz to 400Mhz...It has no artefacts or glitches, but I'm not sure if it's ok to run at that speed, with it's little 5 year old fan (I also have an auxiliary fan not too far from the card)... It also thinks that the GPU memory speed can be brought from 290Mhz to 320Mhz, which seems reasonable. When running at 400/320 I gain about 150fps in the test renderer that comes with the utility, but is it worth it? Will this fry my card? I'm using 350/320 in the mean time... Reason I ask is, it's my first GPU overclock :shy: Any help would be lovely on this one! E: 20 FBMs @ SO is 10-ish FPS, but I know my processor isn't very good...2.60Ghz :shy: But I still get 100+ fps on my own or with a couple of cars on screen. E2: This is with all full graphics settings btw...and 8X AA / 16X AF in Omega panel... ...
