Although Nokia continues to struggle for market share in the US, sales overseas continue to grow and today the handset Maker announced the launch of the Nokia XpressMusic 5800 , nicknamed "the Tube", in what should be their largest release of the year. The 5800 launches alongside the release of Nokia's "Comes with Music" unlimited music download service and uses a Symbian S60 interface that Nokia has been demoing since last year. The device is touchscreen and can be considered more of music player than a phone. Its dual speakers face outwards and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, two features not found on many phones. Also included are 81 MB of on-board memory and a large 8GB microSD card as well as a guitar pick stylus. Music playback includes protected WMA , MP3 , AAC and there is word that the phone can use Windows Media Player 11 as its on-board player. According to the source the XpressMusic 5800 includes "quad-band GSM (regional variants will support different 3G standards), 802.11b/g, GPS , a forward-facing 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and 30 fps video recording as well as a second backward-facing camera. RIM's long-awaited touchscreen iPhone rival, the Blackberry Storm, is launching later this autumn with Verizon Wireless ( NYSE: VZ ) in the US and Vodafone ( NYSE: VOD ) in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand. The Storm is being aimed at both consumers and business users, and tries to improve on the iPhone with what RIM ( NSDQ: RIMM ) claims to be the world's first clickable touchscreen.  The 3G phone comes pre-loaded with software for e-mail and managing documents, and has a media player, a 3.2 megapixel camera and built-in GPS support, among other features. Pricing for the phone hasn't been determined yet, but as Reuters notes, launching new next-generation devices has squeezed RIM's margins, thanks to higher costs. But the device Maker, like its rivals, needs to keep luring in new consumers and so are limited into how much it can pass those costs onto buyers.  In other RIM news, the company also announced today the the availability of new developer tools for creating and testing mobile applications for the Storm, the BlackBerry Bold and the BlackBerry Pearl ( release ). The world’s leading cell phone Maker, Nokia, has unveiled its highly-anticipated touchscreen handset, in a bid to challenge the Apple iPhone in the mobile music market. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone won’t be marketed as a do-everything smartphone, but seeks to target the niche audience of heavy wireless music and media consumers. The device comes with 12 months of unlimited access to Nokia’s Music Store, stereo Bluetooth functionality, and built-in stereo speakers. It can play and record video at a rate of 25 frames-per-second, and surf the internet, including Flash websites. The Symbian 60-based device also features a 3.2-megapixel digital camera, GPS with voice navigation, and wireless networking capability. Like the iPhone, it has no physical keyboard, but rather an on-screen keypad and virtual QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the iPhone, however, the Nokia 5800 doesn’t support multi-touch input, which rules out some of the fancy navigation techniques that are possible on the high-end Apple device. Overall, the Nokia 5800, which boasts as much memory as the iPhone (8GB or 16GB via a microSD card), should provide a new alternative for wireless media aficionados, at a highly competitive price (€279, before carrier subsidies). It is expected to be launched in India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, and Spain by the end of this year, but won’t be available in most developed markets until early next year. “T ...
